g.m. manual transmission fluid?

can any other fluid be used as a substitute for Synchromesh. the trans is a nv3500 5 speed

    Not recommended.

    In a pinch, use synthetic 5W-30. Yes, that's right...motor oil. But make sure it's synthetic! No naturals or hybrids!

    GM Synchromesh is actually 5W-30 with special additives specifically for transmissions.

    heck no i tried it and it ran for about a year now on transmission number 3 dont eva try something different and the main reason is the brass and copper inside the transmission thats not in others. Great transmission tho would recommend for anybody love the nv 3500

    Most any 90 wieght gear oil. If you have any problems, switch back, but really, any 90 weight oil will work, or ATF is better than nothing.

    it either takes automatic transmission fluid or 90 weight gear oil.

    go to any auto parts store ..they can fix u up...mast newer manuals use auto tranny fluid..[yes i know it sounds crazy but true] DO NO USE80/90 GEAR OIL IN A TRANNY MADE IN LAST 20 YEARS... those guys are talkin old ...ask you dealer or any tranny shop...no 80/90 or 90/125 gear oil

  • only if you want noise and shifting problems and the eventual trans failure. i have bottles of that stuff in our shop right now.

    No.

    ADDED:

    However, ANY oil is better than no oil.
