Do you think Randy Moss is the best receiver in NFL right now?

There is the hype that fitzgerald is the best because of his play in playoffs. Yet I still think moss is the best. I think moss did not have a great season this year because tom brady was not the qb. While I think brady is either the best or 2nd best qb right now Moss was what made the pats offense great. It was only after he became a PATRIOT was when brady threw for more than 30 touchdowns for first time in his career (throwing for 50 which was NFL record at time) and came close to being only 19-0 team. Moss also holds nfl record for most td receptions in a season. He also has complete package. Top 10 nfl speed and top 5 jumping ability, 6'4, most dangerous deep threat. He also is the best decoy in receiving game allowing other average receivers to get yards and receptions due to being open.

First off whoever wrote wes welker up there you are a joke.

And andre johnson? He has had 1 good season and 2 other decent seasons. In 6 nfl seasons he has averaged 1063.16 yards a season and only 5.5 td's. He is far from the best. And fitzgerald is very good but not the best. You are exactly right. People who watch 1 nfl player have one good year they hop on the bandwagon and swear they are the best. What wasn't jamal lewis the best running back, then priest holmes, the shaun alexander, then LT? Now its adrian peterson. People are so dumb

and to answer ur question i would agree with you that Randy moss is the best. But Steve Smith is a close second. If he had the Height of moss i would say he is better. But overall i would take moss over smith. Buts its very close.

Again andre johnson and wes welker are OKAY wr's compared to other wr's.

and to say andre had an OKAY qb, explain how Steve Largent put up crazy numbers with the seahawks with an okay quarterback. Johnson would get owned by largent in talent and he was slower. Yeah the quarterback has a lot to do with sucess but the ability for a wr to make a play when its not there is what makes a good wr. smith has to pretty much throw his whole body into every play. If johnson was the same size as smith he would def. suck.

TDs are not the only category to determine how good is a WR and they are actually overrated because a WR can have a bunch of TDs with a low number of receptions. For example Donald Driver was a top WR despite scoring only 2 TDs. If we talk about rookie seasons, Anquan Boldin was better than Moss as a rookie. Moss had more TDs, but Boldin had more yards and receptions and was a more valuable weapon being clearly the go-to guy. As an interesting fact, Moss has never been the leading receiver in terms of the # of receptions or yards.

Moss still is easily one of the best in the league, but I don't know that he is the absolute best, and if he is, he won't hold the title for long. He's aging, and with age, he's bound to lose a step eventually. If Moss losses his speed, he'll lose the only thing he has going to him. He's not tough enough to go across the middle, he isn't great running routes, and he is an awful blocker. When he inevitably loses his speed, his contributions will be limited to end zone targets (he'll still be tall and although he may not have the leaping ability he has now, he'll still have some ups). Although many teams could use that (my poor Eagles for instance), it hardly makes you an elite receiver.

Moss will go down in history as the best deep threat in the game, and perhaps even mentioned in the arguments among the 2nd best WR in the league (he switched teams and was on the two highest scoring offenses ever). However, at this point in his career, although still very good, he isn't the best. Perhaps he's had the best career, but he's not the best WR at this moment.

So who's the best? Andre Johnson makes a great argument. Calvin Johnson is well on his way to being involved in the argument as well. Brandon Marshall could be great (if he stopped being an idiot), and Dwayne Bowe may be the best kept secret in the NFL. However, Larry Fitzgerald is coming into his own. He's absolutely dominant, and although I was skeptical of a lot of things with him at the start of this past season (much like moss - blocking, route running, toughness), he proved to me that he can do everything this year (or at least puts all he has into it). He's developing as a blocker (he's not very strong, but stronger than people realize), and he's no longer afraid to go over the middle (although it's clearly not his strongest category).

All that being said, I think a lot of Fitzgerald's success comes from the guy lining up across the field from him - Boldin is one of the most underrated receivers in the league. He's a different type of receiver - a physical, tough, mauler type (a la TO). As a rookie the guy came busting into the league, and caught 101 passes for 1377 yards from the likes of Jeff Blake and Josh McCown. Unfortunately, he's been slowed by injuries, but when healthy, I don't know that there are many other guys I'd want over him.

So Fitzgerald is the best right now, but before this year, I definitely had a lot of questions about him (although I don't know that there would have been any receiver I'd want before him due to his age and abilities). He silenced me this year by outplaying Boldin, and producing during Boldin's injuries. The kid is great, and he's getting better. He's working on his weaknesses, and he's learning tons about reading the game, and finding seams in defenses. Who would you honestly rather have lining up at WR for your team? I can't think of anyone, and that cements you as being the best.

What's Cracka - calling Andre Johnson OK completely discredits you from having an informed opinion about anyone in the NFL. Johnson is clearly an elite receiver in the NFL. There is no denying that right now he is at least a top 10 receiver.

What cracks me up is that you discredit Johnson because he "only" averages 1063 yards a season (despite being plagued by injuries much of his career), and yet you pick Steve Smith as your best.... Steve Smith "only" averages 918.5 yards per season and 4.125 TD's a year. Of course, Smith didn't start his first season, and was injured nearly a full year, but they started essentially the same number of games, and have incredibly similar stats. Both are very talented, but have been held back by injuries.

No he is not the best anymore. I think that he was the best when he played with the Vikings though. When you said you think that Moss did not have a great season because Tom Brady was out you proved one of the things I find annoying, which is that everyone thinks receivers are god but do not look at the QB that's throwing the ball to him.

In my opinion the best receiver in the NFL is Steve Smith. Everyone sleeps on him, and no one acknowledge's what he is doing. He may have a bit of a shitty attitude but he is an outstanding player.

Even though i'm a Pats fan i'd have to say he's the 3rd best Receiver right now,

Andre Johnson is definitely the best right now, he's close to be putting up Moss and Fitzgerald records, and his quarterback threw more int's then touchdowns last year. Moss is breaking records with Tom Brady. Fitzgerald is breaking them with Kurt Warner. Andre Johnson is close to breaking them with Matt Schaub.

Brady and Warner are both Hall of Fame qb's, Matt Schaub is not.

No Andre Johnson. He does stuff with an average quarterback that most do with great quarterbacks. Fitzgerald would not be able to do what he does right now without Warner. Moss last year? Thats what he can do with an average QB. He proved he is a Top 5 WR in the NFL but hes not the Best. Andre Iam only skeptical about is his injury proneness. Idk if thats even a word.

Andre Johnson. He never had a Tom Brady like QB to look good. We saw how Moss was without a average QB in Oakland. We see what Andre can do without an atleast average QB, now compare the two with their stats before Moss went to the Pats.

Just imagined Johnson on the Patriots. Now that would be deadly.

Though I will say Moss is better than Fitzgerald.

i would actually agree that andre johnson is the best wr in the league right now...he has been on a **** team his whole career and still ends up with pretty good numbers...randy moss is nothing without a good qb

  • 1 decade ago

no i don't think that randy moss is the best wide in the league. He is on a good team which makes him look good. There are other good receivers out their like andre johnson, chad johnson that are very good but are on sucky teams.

Moss is a best receiver now. Jerry Rice was back in 19 decade and 2000 yrs.
