@ Ty M - Thank you for the link, but I am already aware of these things as I am a Muslim and I read Quran and Hadeeth of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). What would you say about those women who become victims of their boyfriends and husbands violance in western societies? Islam is providing the shield to women from any physical harm.
The cleric is right, and he is speaking according to the Quran and hadeeth of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

for females, wait till the right guy comes and asks for your hand from your parent's hand.
if you are a guy, have your mother, sister, or some sort of female relative seek a nice woman for you

I think this is the wrong forum to be asking this question. Arranged marriage or one which the family fixes up for you would probably be the best option.
