I want to upgrade my processor on my computer.?
I am currently using "AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ 2.00 Ghz". I found a " AMD Athlon 64 X2 5800+ Brisbane 3.0GHz Socket AM2 89W Dual-Core Processor" on NewEgg. Is it possible to just switch them out, or am I missing a step? Maybe I am using the wrong processor to replace it with. Can anyone help me with this?

I depends on what socket type your 3800+ is.
If it is a AM2 then it should work just fine, you might have to update your motherboards Bios though. You can check the MB manufacturer to see if the 5800+ is supported.
If you are using the older 939 socket then it will not work, and you will have to get a new motherboard that supports the newer AM2 socket.
FYI- If you are going to have to buy a new motherboard, get a AM3 motherboard and a new AM3 CPU instead. In the long run, it will last longer.

Both are socket AM2 and, depending on your motherboard, should be able to switch them out with no problem. I'm confident that your motherboard supports the 5800+. Try and find out the make and model of the motherboard and look up compatible CPUs if you're really paranoid about it not working.

Nope, you could just swap them out. They are both Socket AM2 processors, so a simple swap would be possible.
