Why can't you take a picture of someone at Walmart?

My niece came to visit on her Birthday. Pleasant surprise. The day was pretty much planned but Walmart was on that list. She was joking telling us that she drove 6 hours just to go to Walmart for her birthday. Her mom snapped a pic of her at the front standing next to the I.D. maker for her to have a "keepsake" of her birthday outing. No sooner had she done that than a clerk came tearing out from behind customer service counter and informed them in no uncertain terms that was NOT allowed. She proceeded to stand there and watched my sister delete that picture from her camera. I've never really thought about it and this was a spur of the moment thing but I've never seen anything that says you can't take a picture of a family member in any Walmart store. Has anyone here heard of anything happening like this?

Update:

Since I posted this I finally got ahold of a live person concerning this. She apologized for the way the clerk reacted and said she shouldn't have. But, the reason (I guess as good as any) is that they don't want competitors coming in and taking pictures of what other machines and what not they are using in their store. I know, it doesn't make sense to me either. But, I guess any excuse is better than none. Like that particular machine or others like it aren't already everywhere you go? But at any rate that's their story and they're sticking to it!

That's because the vampires that own wal mart, will be discovered by not showing up in photo's, hence the ban.

    Take Pictures At Walmart

Wal-Mart is not a secret military installation, and there is no reason you can't take a picture of any part of the store. Clearly the clerk was delusional and looking to be sued. I would have told her to call a cop, but there's no way I'm deleting that picture from my camera, and I would've been taking her picture while I said it.

I would have asked to see a manager. I've seen many people taking pictures with cell phones of each other after trying on cowboy hats etc. The store sells these phones and many people try them out before they leave the store.
