Help with itchy pup...?
We moved to a new apartment a week ago - and over the last couple of days, my 6yr old Pom-Chiuhahua mix has been VERY itchy. He isnt eating or drinking normally; and he is scratching so much that he is pulling a LOT of fur out & making his skin raw & bloody. I have tried giving him Benadryl, but cant get him to take much of it without spitting it out, and we bought Frontline for him in case it is fleas. I also have 3 cats & they arent reacting like this. So I am beginning to think its the stress of the move - does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can ease his discomfort??

You need to figure out what is new or old in the apartment - it sounds like a contact allergy, if you haven't changed the food.
The first and best thing you can do is to rinse your dog down every day with tepid water - not warm. That will remove whatever is on his coat, and stop him from breathing it in.
You can get a plug-in air purifier at one of the bed & bath shops - that will help, especially if you place it near where he spends the most time.
It could be a reaction to air freshener, new carpeting, fabric finish in new furniture, mold, plug in scent dispensers???
Pay attention to whether he has gotten any new treats or chewable medications before the itching started - and don't apply any shampoo or other topical things- just water.
If you cannot figure it out, ask for a referral to a veterinary dermatologist. In the meantime your vet can give him some injectable benadryl.
