Ipod screen wont turn on will sync with itunes?

another ipod question. my ipod was on working fine. so i loaded shazam app to try it out. so i plugged in my headsets. i was planning on opening itunes to play my music to try it out. then my computer crashed (my ipod was not connected) when i tryed to log on (blue screen). and so then i was planning to hit tag in shazam to see if it would even recognize the microphone to see if my headsets even had a mic. and that was when i hit the top button to slide to unlock. but nothing loaded. just was a black screen as if it was shut off. finaly my computer booted up and i plugged in my ipod to see if it would say any error when i opened itunes but it synced just fine.

extras:

Ipod touch firmware 2.2.1 and the second generation.

ipod was turned on when i had it working, just on standby i guess you could call it so it wasnt completely shut off.

this has happend to me before but it started working fine but i forget how.

stuff ive tried.

holding the power button

volume rocker switch (dont think that helped at all)

center buton

power button and center button

holding center button

holding power and center button

holding the volume rocker switch

not tried restoring it because i dont want to go through all that again. ive done it once it is not fun adding all your apps and music again...

Update:

i restored it it works.. it was NOT jailbroken by the way

It sounds to me as if it has completely run out of battery power. Leave it charging for two to five hours - longer if you can. If it doesn't work after that take it to an Apple store. How long have you had it? I was told my iPod battery wouldn't last that long and would need replaced. However I've had it for quite a bit now and touch wood have yet to need it replace - although it doesn't work for the hours it promises to. Good luck!
