do you think this is offensive?

i had to write a response to a section of reading out of text book for my comparative religion class. well it bothered me how the text defined things in this section it was a brief overview of the term religion and myth, and they made an example of hindus.

the response i gave the prof was opened with this paragraph:

Religious: being part of the oppressed masses while conforming to a set of beliefs and practices only to revolt during various states of unconsciousness. The believers goal at hand, to achieve a genuine feeling of reverence. Such phenomena is reviewed broadly, from an aspect of culture, all the way through it being an overvalued illusion. Vital issues and values that are amplified and used as allegorical scare tactics are myths. Sacred cows trigger commitment among Hindus, all the while uniting intellect and emotion, not to mention enshrining the teachings in a tangible way.

now he is a pastor, and im not entirely sure he likes me. (i was the only person in my class to admit that i didn't believe in a god.) but i keep thinking i offended him by criticizing the text, it was his pick.

do you think that this is rude? it was a written assignment.

I don't think it is rude at all. School is a place to expand minds, and even though he may have devoted his life to what he believes, he respects the fact that there are people in the world with different points of view, which makes our society what it is. It also shows that you have enough intelligence to recognize the differentials between religions.

As a Hindu, my faith values tolerance and I don't take offense at what you think.

Your response made for an interesting beginning. Misinformed and incorrect (sacred cows trigger commitment and unite intellect????) though . What exactly did the text say ?!? But then you are a student and I commend you for independent thinking.

Debating involves disagreeing and if the intent was an honest attempt at understanding, it is not rude.

But if the whole purpose of comparative studies is to put the others down, well what can you say.....

It's not rude to disagree. I think you've just written your response in a rather clumsy manner. You should revise this submission and split it into clear points for discussion. Put away your thesaurus, write it as you would normally express yourself then go back over it and include the addition of more complex words. This will allow the pastor to analyse your work then you can work through each and every point together.

I'm not, in any way, implying that I think you're silly, I just think that the structure needs some revision.

it is good i like it but people tend to get mad when you in there eyes insult their religon or religion in general even when you don't mean to. I believe in god and or higher being but i find all the religions and churchs/temples or whatever the **** you wanna call them are absolutly in every way curupt.

Answering a question is not a consideration of being rude.

You would not want to write an answer that he/she thinks, tell what you believe to be correct and stand by it.
