Am I the only one who thinks that Obama using federal taxpayer dollars to fund stem cell research is wrong?

“President Barack Obama said Monday he is allowing federal taxpayer dollars to fund significantly broader research on embryonic stem cells because ‘medical miracles do not happen simply by accident,’ and promised his administration would make up for the ground lost under his predecessor.” (I would like to note that he's also for cloning)

Let’s look at the definition of miracle:

mir-a-cle, n. (1) an effect of extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause; (2) such an effect or event manifesting or considered as a work of God.

So what you’re saying is that those who are working on stem cell research have the ability to cause an extraordinary event that surpasses all known human powers? Oh, AND they are creating something that is supernatural? Wait…they’re God!?

WOAH. I never realized the medical field had so much power, or that those so powerful have been simply walking among us.

Thank you Obama! Thank you for opening my eyes to the fact that now everyone has the chance to be God!!!!!!

I officially have a new career goal in life—to be God.

GOD...oh wait...MEDICAL RESEARCHERS BLESS AMERICA!

Update:

I guess it's necessary to point out that I'm actually NOT religious, and this has nothing to do with “lives of babies.” The point I'm trying to get at is how ridiculous his reasoning is for his actions. It's an awful defense for why he's using my money to fund this field.

I'm delighted. I think stem cell research has the largest potential for real break-throughs in dozens of important areas, and the idea that it is better to throw away unwanted embryos rather than use them is hypocritical in the extreme.

Nope, most of Obama's reversals have been real bad for America, closing Gitmo, ending military tribunals, funding abortions in foreign countries at a time we are in a recession, and now this.

The crazies are taking over the looney asylum. Obama will ruin the country!

the use of "miracle" is metaphorical as always, as real miracles do not occur

I have no problem researching on human cells, none whatsoever.

The fact of the matter is most people have become fed up with fundamentalist nonsense. The majority of Americans support this research. Opposing this research is no different than opposing blood transfusions, vaccines, or contraception for religious purposes.

Likening science that can prolong human life, cure cancer, disease, limitless potential for good to "playing God" is the oldest cliche in the book and isn't going to convince anyone who loves someone who is slowly dying.

Here's a thought: Get off the high horse, remove the false idea of faith and God from your mind and then you'll be a real human being.

Also, did you not note that there are two definitions of "miracle" there. One pertaining to God, the other not. Regardless, both definitions were written by MEN.

They already cured a man with aids using stem cell in another country.

As for playing God, I think God gave us a mind to use it for helping others.

We all have our own opinions and you are welcome to yours but I am happy about the stem cell research.

No, but then I think everything he does is wrong.

I haven't noticed anything new from the private companies doing it - except for clones that don't live very long.

letfreed...they were not embryonic stem cells. no disease has EVER been cured by them
