Question for download time/speed?

Can anyone tell me what the download time if the internet speed is 1.5 Mbps/256 Kbps is for a file of 50 MB? I'm not sure if I asked this question right or not. Sorry. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Update:

I'd be using a modem/router. It's through AT&T

Mbps and Kbps stand for Megabits per second and kilobits per second. The 50 MB file is 50 Megabytes. There are 8 bits in a byte (it's one of those silly binary things). I'm not sure how your internet connection can be both 1.5 Mbps/256 Kbps at the same time. At 1.5 Mbps a 50 MB download should take between a 3-4 minutes. (There are 400 bits in 50 MB divided by 1.5= 267 seconds) but your internet speed will very a little from second to second and the speed the server you are downloading from with affect it too. You can check your internet speed at http://reviews.cnet.com/internet-speed-test/

(It may be different than what your internet company tells you.)

edit- Doh! I just figured out why your internet speed was listed that way. The 1.5 Mbps is your download speed and the 256 Kbps is your upload speed. (You can get stuff faster than you can send it. For most people download speed is more important than upload speed and the number is higher so internet companies usually only say the download speed unless you specifically ask them.

Hi, usually, 1.5 is the burst speed, you to check the file transfer rate. i think its around 190 - 200kbps, so I think it will be 4+ hours to complete.
