What do you think of the Fair Tax that is being talked about?
Sarah, taxes may be unfair, but they will always be with us. I think the fair tax would be much better, but I could be wrong. :-)
out2lunc: I am sure that there would be those who would find a way to get out of paying as much as the majority. But, I do believe that the tax would be more fair than the way it is done now.

There's not much to say about it. It's fair and that's exactly why politicians won't go for it. Wouldn't it be great to truly understand our tax system though? No need to fight through tax forms and never really know if you're getting all of the deductions you qualify for.
The good side is that people have control over how much tax they pay by adjusting their spending habits.

Good: You will pay a tax rate that is dependent on the lifestyle you want to live. If you want a cadillac you will pay more for it. If you want to be frugal and buy a Hyundai, you will pay less.
Bad: It will negatively impact the middle class much more than the upper class since the middle class tends to spend more disposable income on consumer goods.

If it is truly "fair", meaning EVERYBODY pays the same percentage regardless of income or number of dependents or anything else, I'm all for it. If it makes even one concession for anyone, then it's not "fair" and I don't like it.
