You know, Yahoo is not a pretty bad service.?

I never really check out Yahoo much, my primary search engine is Google and I rarely even go on Messenger or any of Yahoo's "Award Winning" services. However, I spend a lot of time on Yahoo Answers and Yahoo Games; in fact I even got to level 6 on this answers thingy so I spend a great deal of time here.

I'm getting lifted browsing Yahoo's portal for once in my life and I am impressed with just about, everything. The UI is looking good, very easy, informative widgets and how smooth it all looks.

Why is it that it gets such a bad rep when mentioned in the same sentence as Google? I work in IT and Yahoo's name got defamed like, it's almost where Excite is now to those who remember Excite, it was HUGE; now it's nothing.

In any event, I think Yahoo's pretty cool, I got no idea why people say isn't a pretty sick service.

Any thoughts? :)

    Interesting question...

Yahoo is huge - it has a lot (tons) of different services, some well-known others mysterious. There seem to be little coordination between those services - many wheels are re-invented by Yahoo's various teams. This creates confusion both internally and for Yahoo users.

I don't know much about Yahoo Answers, but I do know quite a bit about Yahoo Groups. This is a great service with no real competition from Google or otherwise. However, the software at Yahoo Groups is a moving target - no one bothers telling users when and why features change/ get added/ deleted. Members simply stumble on the changes (and the new bugs they introduce). Help documentation lags new features by weeks or months. Most users do not even bother trying to report problems to Yahoo any more, because few people have ever gotten useful feedback from Yahoo (if at all).

Another service I have just started using in Yahoo Buzz which is currently in Beta. I discovered a bug in the software as soon as I joined, but had difficulty locating Buzz's problem reporting form.

Someone here on Answers helped me find the form - so I went ahead and reported the bug to Yahoo Buzz. Unfortunately, my report seems to have gone to a bot who replied back with some nonsensical text, somthing like " this is not currently implemented" when my complaint was that a feature was not working properly

I agree with oth o about the bots. It seems like Yahoo is entirely automated. Like there's not really any help support whatsoever. But I have found that asking the right questions can get the right results. But still, there are a lot of things that really upset me. I'd rather ask my questions here, and just hope that I didn't "break" any of the netiquette, than even bother with contacting Yahoo directly. It's like they are paying attention, but when it comes down to the simple facts they really don't care.
