What is an appropriate thank you gift?

My husband was just hired for a hotel management position at the good word of his current boss (both hotels are owned by the same company). This is such a good opportunity for my husband , he would like to thank him. We thought of a bottle of wine, but we don't really know much about wine. We want to get something classy and thoughtful, but don't want it to be weird (you know how men can be). Anyway, any ideas?

I agree a bottle of wine is always a good gift. If you don't know much about wine, try going to a local wine shop - There is a chain called Wine Styles, they are really helpful and not too expensive.

Either way, couple a bottle of wine with a wine coaster or a Vinturi Wine Aerator.

It's the thought that counts, don't get too hung up on the bottle itself, there are some great inexpensive wines out there.

Recommendations you can prob find: Klinker Brick red zinfadel approx $15; Guenoc petite syrah approx $10; McNab Ridge petite syrah approx $14; Fortitude cabranet approx $20; Cline red zinfadel approx $17

May or may not like this but I buy coins from the U. S. Mint, it's at us.mint.gov. They have a ton of reasonably prices items and normally increase in value. They have a new commemorative Lincoln coin coming out in April that you could order now and I suggest getting the "proof' version, they sell more of those but flashy. the uncirculated type is more for collectors as they normally sell less. just to give you an idea these sell for about $35 and they are made of silver! Several years ago they had a silver coin for $35 and it's worth $400 now or like the gold coins, one was $200 and sells for $3,500 right now. This year is a good year and they discontinued 200 items.. You could always get him a silver proof set. The '99 set is at $400 and the 2001 is at $125, but cost $44.95 and silver. The gift that lasts, but tons of other stuff and not many people collect it,he could frame or put on desk. Yo cold also look at the US Engraving for collectable cash.

Now they cannot drink it, but what the heck, if it gets tough then they will have some silver. Have a great 2009!

The appropriate gift is a proper thank-you note. If your husband is unfamiliar with courtesy correspondence, there are business etiquette guides galore at the library.

A nice diner out or a gift card or some tickets to a sporting event if he is in to sports.

They have AWESOME gifts. They're very reasonable to. If you want something less formal, a gift card is always nice.
