Cable Internet - Wireless Router - Xbox 360 & Laptop Question...?
Okay, here's my question.... I am having cable internet installed in a new home. I now have a laptop with wireless capability, we have a Xbox 360 with the xbox live wireless attachment antenna thing (my son actually prefers to hook Xbox 360 directly into the computer). How do I without a desktop computer hook this all together?
Will the cable internet come with a modem?
Tell me if I'm right about this...
The modem will be connected directly to the cable outlet.
Which I will then connect to a wireless router.
My son will then use his antenna thing or plug directly into the router or modem.
And my laptop will run as usual.
Is this right?
We now have cable internet but everything is connected through our desktop with a billion cords, I do not want the desktop, monitor or cpu tower taking up space, we never use it.
So how do I do this. Can it be done?
Answer like your explaining to a child, or worse a 40 something mom...
I'm clueless.
THANKS!

It will work if you don't want to use your desktop. Cable Internet comes with a modem. You just take the ethernet cord (looks like a fat phone cord) coming from that modem and that cord goes to the wireless router. You have the RF cable cord coming from the wall and plugging into the modem. (Round, pointy thing inside). Voila!! That is all! YOU ARE RIGHT!!!

Yes, Your cable internet will go to a modem and then take that to the wireless router. He can run a ethernet cable directly from the Router to his xbox360 or use his wireless adapter. Speed is better with the direct ethernet link. And your wireless laptop should work just as is. Make sure to put the router near where you will be using the laptop for best speeds.
