Gaining weight, speed, skills in Rugby?

Im a 16 year old boy playing rugby at high school level. I'm 5'8", about 68 kg. I was wondering HOW i should train, should i train speed? agility? endurance? strength? power?

Obviously all, but how? Should i focus on a certain aspect for a month? then switch aspects, or do a little every day/every other day?

Apart from answering the How question i'd be very thankful if u could provide with maybe the best example/way to get stronger, faster, more agile etc etc.

This is all because i don't feel i'm bad at rugby, but i wanna take my level a little higher...

Thanks

size has NOTHING to do with how strong a player one can be. I am the smallest girl on the rugby team and their best tackler.

I think in rugby strength and speed are both needed. But train more so on speed. If you're small and run fast, almost nothing can stop you on the field. That means endurance and sprints. Lots and lots of running in rugby.

Power you will need. Rugby needs strong players to tackle the opponents. Most players have one or the other, but any players that have both power and speed are starting line no doubt.

A lot of the work in rugby in in the legs, contested scrums, rucks, getting low for a tackle.

rugby is almost like a all power game. you need speed, you need strength, you need endurance, you need agility, you need power. its all there. that's what makes it so fun!

remember size does not matter in any way. the smallest player on teams can make the biggest difference. and being the smallest player on a team is something to be proud of.

The most important things to develop are the skills and a rugby head. The best way is to turn up at practice and get much game time. But in your spare time play some 'touch' or 'held' games with your friends, and do some passing drills if you can all be arsed. It might also help if you play with the ball on your own to get the handling instincts and possibly some kicking skills if you're a back. The more time you spend with a ball in your hand the better you get to know it.

As for running speed there are plenty of exercise drills that are well established that you can do in your spare time to improve your sprinting ability. Just google it. Endurance is pretty straightforward, just do long periods of aerobic exercise.

As for gaining weight just eat well, you've still got plenty of room to grow if you're 16. Weight probably won't help you that much for a few years anyway.

First work on the basic jog early in the morning and work on sprints. Strength is also obviously a important aspect of rugga especially the upper body and core. Get dumbbells to work your arms(ask a fisio for weight advise) and do sitt-ups for your core as it supports your spine and back. Press-ups will work your pecs witch is a vital for holding on to the ball and stealing. Try and get some protein shakes to bulk up, don't use to much!!! But remember without fitness the rest won't be at any use.

the obvious way for strength is weights training...if you have a gym near by ask for a program or advise. do them in sets what ever your able to handle. start low then work your way up.

speed this is tough but suicides are good. set 3 markers say 10meters then 20 more meters then 30 more meters. sprint to the 10 mark sprint back. then sprint to 20 and sprint back and finally to 30 and back... do that as many times as you can.

you should look a good diet also. thats usually vital in rugby. get protein suplement with your diet to help build your muscles more.

theres lots of great training regimes on mens health magazine.com and youtube.

Source(s): i do most of the stuff, i need to be bigger for rugby so i asked the best way to get big and fast.

Your age puts you right on the cusp of whether or not you should be lifting weights or not. I'd say go for it. Eat a lot of foods with protein and good carbohydrates (whole wheat pasta and bread) and go to the gym. When you're in your teens you'll gain muscle faster than you ever will later in your life.
