How to cook a round tip steak?
A neighbor gave me about 5 pounds of beef round tip steaks. They are about 1/2" thick. I froze some but want to cook one tonight but I (obviously) don't know much about cooking a steak. Would it be better to pan fry or cook in the broiler? Should I put anything on it when cooking?

Unless this steak is cooked quickly it's best braised or cooked by a slow method.
Here's a recipe I fixed today. I updated the recipe to use the pressure cooker.

Noodles with Steak Sauce

Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:00

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 pound round steak -- cubed
1 tablespoon corn oil
1 cup chopped onion
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon flour
7 1/2 ounces tomato sauce
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon red wine
13 ounces egg noodles -- cooked and drained
1 tablespoon corn oil
1 tablespoon salt
Steak Sauce: Heat corn oil in heavy saucepan. Add beef cubes and brown on all sides.
Add onion, first amount of salt, pepper and water. Bring to a boil. Simmer covered about 1 1/2 hours until very tender. Add more water as needed but try not to have too much left when meat is cooked.
Whisk flour in tomato sauce until smooth. Stir into meat along with sour cream and wine. Bring to a boil briefly. Keep hot while noodles cook.
In large uncovered saucepan cook noodles in boiling water, second amounts of corn oil and salt until tender but firm, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain. Divide among 4 plates. Dive meat sauce over top. If you like, noodles and meat sauce can be served separately. Leftovers can be frozen.
Serves 4.
To cook in the pressure cooker: Follow the above directions except cook the browned beef cubes in 1 cup water for 30 minutes at 15 pounds pressure. Let pressure drop naturally. Continue as directed.

The best uses or recipes for this cut of meat are casseroles, stews or a pot roast.
If you cut the meat into thin strips it will be nice fried with oil, garlic, ginger and chili as a stir fried chili beef and is lovely accompanied with rice, noodles or vegetables.
Its usually a tougher cut of meat and needs to be tenderised before eating hence the slow cook recipe suggestions
