can someone explain carbon taxing to me?
because from what i understand it means the people get taxed more and big polluting corporations get to pollute more and trade these permits and make a profit whilst still damaging the environment. why do we have to pay for years of government inaction. its not like we had a choice to use clean energy at the time and why are the coming after us when the biggest culprits to the problem are the big corporations who have no regard to the world we live in at all and anything that gets in the way of profits is bad.
4) they can invest in alternative energy and phase out coal and that way it doesnt matter how much electricity they provide. i know which option sounds the best. though im for it being publically owned anyway like all utilities should be
taxing the companies may aswell be taxing us. since when do they ever go yeah we're the people causing this mess we'll absorb the costs. we've been told in australia to expect 40% price hikes in our electricity bills from 2010 when it comes in. its simply not a fair system. the government should be pushing for much stricter laws and the phasing out of coal and oil. and we shouldnt be paying for it when we had no choice but to accept what we were given at the time

They tax particulate matter (PM) by ton...(PM-10, PM-2.5 -- the numbers are a measurement in microns...measures everything from dust kicked up by a tractor to coal stacks spewing black smoke)
Each polluting business is allotted a certain allowance...if they go over that allowance, they have to purchase extra "credits" from other companies.
Every business gets a certain allowance -- and those businesses that don't use their allotted credits sell them to those businesses who do.
Essentially -- it puts the burden on bigger business in an effort to limit their market share -- it has nothing to do w/ reducing pollution b/c another entity will pop-up in their spot and spew the same amount.
Your cost of living will go up...purchasing power will be diminished...
Quite a wonderful strategy when people are hurting...

from what i understand that's not what carbon taxing is at all. You the consumer are not being taxed, it's the corporations. there's debate between whether there should be a flat tax based on how much the corporation pollutes or there should be a cap and trade system. In the cap and trade system, there are a certain number of permits that are originally auctioned out. You can only pollute as much as you have a permit for. So eventually, it will work out that companies that don't pollute as much won't need extra permits and will sell them to companies that do pollute more. This will encourage companies to pollute less because if the demand for the permits goes up so will the price.

Cap-and-trade carbon-emissions taxing is quite a bit simpler than the government makes it out to be. Basically, depending on the size of your company, you get a permit to release X lbs. of carbon into the atmosphere. If you stay below the mark, you can sell some of your allowed, unused emissions to another company for them to use. However, if you have a company that pumps lots of hazardous waste into the air, you either have to buy someone else's permits, or pay a fine to the gov't.

Basically, the electric company would have a couple of options...
1) they can limit your service to keep from polluting more than their fair share...
2) they can pay a tax on their emissions that YOU would pay for in the form of higher energy prices.
3) they can simply fold up and make way for the federal government to provide you with electricity.

Companies are given the right to release a certain amount of carbon dioxide in the air. If they clean up and release less than that they are rewarded in that they can sell the rights to the difference to companies which have not cleaned up.

Businesses will get an allotment on carbon emissions. If they use more than the allotment, they can buy some from businesses that do not use all of theirs. Only in America!

Al Gore started a company called Generation Investment Management which makes millions selling carbon credits. That's pretty much all you need to know that a fleecing is taking place.

I works this way, the dems have figured out another way to screw your wallet. Everything from gasoline to your light bill will skyrocket in price all in the "feel good" politics of saving the planet. The biggest scam yet invented!

Do a search for "Cap and Trade"
I guess somehow sending hundreds of billions of our dollars per year to Washington is supposed to stop global warming.
Its a scam.

There are probably a lot of ways to do it, but it will have to be based on the moronic philosophies of the Bogwan Shri Gore of the Temple of Global Warming.
Otherwise we might think that the new democrat government relies only on tax-cheating amateurs.
(Oh wait....damn...)
