Ordinary People seeing/hearing ghosts?

Just interested to read how many people here have either seen, heard or smelled/sensed a presence. Would you mind telling me where and what were some of the preceding warning signals/conditions to the event (e.g a cold spot in a particular room, something that was moved when no one would have done so etc)? I am a seer myself and love the topic.

Update:

Guys don't force ghost sightings as you will attract negative earthbound spirits to you. If you see any naturally, that is because you were meant to and there is a message in it for you. No ouja boards, seances, mirror practices etc. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS STUFF! As for you who do not believe, that's okay too. Your choice, but please show respect for those who DO believe and have experienced this wonderful event. We are not mad, delirious or prevaricators! Thank you.

Update 2:

For all of you who report the "bearing down" feeling of a presence on your body or "choking", this is known as "The Hag Syndrome". It is when a troubled soul is trying to enter your body for whatever reason it feels it needs to (to experience a sensation again such as drugs, alcohol, sex, food etc) as explained by another reader who answered my question here. If this happens to you be very firm in commanding the spirit to leave you alone and remind him/her that he/she is dead and earthbound and that he/she must seek the light. After the event protect yourself psychically with meditation and by cleansing your home with Frankenscence smudgings and clear quartz crystals above all house entry points (mainly back and front entry doors to the premises). This a very frightening experience for the recipient which could end up in (but is very unlikely) so called "demonic posession....keeping in mind there are no demons, just very tortured souls unable to find their way to heaven.

Update 3:

Cheese Fairy: No-one needs to be right here, but let's just say that I too speak from a wealth of experience. I have met with some very famous mediums, read upteenth books on the subject, and more importantly, have received first hand anecdotes of these experiences from many people I know well and trust including my good ol lucid self! The Hag syndrome is most definitely NOT a sleeping disorder, it is as I say (is that correct Queen Of Spades?) and yes understanding the ghosts reason for being trapped is one way of assisting them to move on (as depicted in the movie The Sixth Sense) but directing them to the light is also a component of that, as -as you say, they do not recognise they are dead. How you want to cleanse your home is up to you, but the methods I described are certainly one way. Thanks for your input.

It's not incredibly uncommon among those of us who are calm enough to be patient and without fear.

I can always feel/sense if there is something/someone behind me or around me.

I have seen a few guardians in graveyards, and 'lost souls' in other places as well. There was a place in CO named Ashcroft that was teeming with imprinted energies. Of course, this place is also known as a ghost town.

Contrary to popular belief, a graveyard is really not the best place to fin spirits. The general populous only believes this because of an instinctual human attachment to their own bodies. Only two types of ghosts inhabit graveyards. Guardians (also known as protecting spirits) and the more angry/depressed spirits that were so attached to their own flesh that they followed their body to the grave. Typically, these types of spirits had worldly addictions like cigarettes or drugs. These types of addictions can not be satisfied without a body, therefore, the spirit goes on lamenting the absence thereof.

    Now, just to clarify one last thing;

Humans (and all living things) are masses of energy. Therefore, when a person dies, there is always a possibility of an imprint of their energy staying behind. Spirits are not really cognitive beings, nor ones with a real thought-process, because this type of thinking requires a brain. Hence the common report of spirits doing the same things repeatedly.

edit: Honestly, I have to go with Cheese Fairy on this one.

I had a bit of a time keeping my mouth shut about the whole "guiding them to the light" issue. I didn't want to stomp on your beliefs, but in my personal opinion, spirits/entities/demons or what have you are strictly non-religious. That is why I can't stand it when people use religion as a cure-all for 'ghosts'. The truth is, that it doesn't matter what you believe, as long as you do believe in something, and it will work for you. That is the power of thought, friends. Also, on the Hag Syndrome issue, Cheese fairy is also correct. In many cultures, isolated sleep paralysis is commonly referred to as "the witch riding your back", or 'Hag Syndrome'. Sleep paralysis is a condition that may occur in normal subjects or be associated with narcolepsy, cataplexy, and hypnagogic hallucinations. The pathophysiology of this condition is closely related to the normal hypotonia that occur during REM sleep. When considered to be a disease, isolated sleep paralysis is classified as MeSH D020188.

Physiologically, it is closely related to the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is known as REM atonia. Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain awakes from a REM state, but the body paralysis persists. This leaves the person fully conscious, but unable to move. In addition, the state may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger. Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual due to the vividness of such hallucinations. The hallucinatory element to sleep paralysis makes it even more likely that someone will interpret the experience as a dream, since completely fanciful, or dream-like, objects may appear in the room alongside one's normal vision. Also, in her last edit, she mentioned that most of the books on spirits and ghosts are crap and you really have to take everything with a grain of salt, because most of those people really have no idea about what they are talking about.

Also, although I will say that I personally like quarts crystals and frankincense, salt water is also just as effective and also much cheaper, but I suggest not using iodized salt, but instead using sea salt.

Source(s): I've been researching the occult since I was very very young, and I have ha numerous experiences with spirits and other astral entities. I have banished my fair share of spirits, and I have also had the horror of having to coax a few not so friendly spirit out of two of my friends. Everyone's opinion matters, so please, if you're willing to learn, don't be dogmatic about your beliefs, and this goes for everyone.

OK - I see you're spreading mytholgies and incorrect information.

Attempting to see a spirit is NOT going to draw demons to you, nor open you up for demonic possession- nor possession by a tortured soul.

Oujia boards are literally toys; without training and expertise, people are NOT going to call forth anything except their active imaginations.

Hag syndrome is sleep paralysis - it was called hag syndrome in ancient times, because people believed it was a witch "riding" them. However, sleep studies and science, from the 1950s until today, have found that some folks, especially those prone to other sleep disorders like apnea, will experience a type of paralysis between deep sleep and waking. In reality, they aren't actually awake at all. http://paranormal.suite101.com/article.cfm/what_is...

Frankinsense and quartz are unneccessary to purify and cleanse a dwelling - good old fashioned salt water still works the best - it is the most ancient and valued purifier in the world. Sprinkling it on your doorways and window sills is enough.

As for seeing ghosts, place spirits, time slip accidents - all my life. I have spend a great deal of time working with a "dead worker" - some one who helps the spirits get settled. It is NOT a matter of force; there is no "go into the light" type of crap, there is no searching them out and making them behave. Instead, it is helping that understand a number of things - first and foremost, that they are dead - lots don't get that. second, that their presence could be causing someone discomfort. Third, finding out what they need and want to be at peace - sometimes it's just a message to pass on to the living. I have done dead work myself - for another of the dead, to help him rest by getting his long dead son to understand it was ok to do other things now.

What have I seen? Anything from a vague shape in grey or white, to a highly detailed gentleman who one day appeared in my diningroom, looking flustered , and demanded to know what I was doing in his garden. I simply replied that it was the year 2001. he said Oh and was gone. In all seriousness, our house did sit on land that was one part of a larger farm/estate - the house across the street was the original great house, the local park and school grounds had originally been cropland. It's highly possible that my house's location had been the formal gardens in the 1800s. The plat didn't show personal gardens. I've seen things that could only be called fey, and some things that made both the dog and I go into the house and lock the door (like that was gonna help) and hope we were considered of no consequence. I've seen what are called "place memories" - the form of spirit that does the same thing over and over again, without any interaction with humans, and in time fades away and new memories are made in that space and imprint upon it.

EDIT - Queen of Spades - If you like Colorado, I have a few other places you will like - Irwin, which was once a huge town around the lake, but all that is left is a few houses a graveyard and the lake made into a park. BLM land near Lake City. Buffalo Creek, Paradise, Ouray- just to name a few - all hugely populated mining towns, all still very active.

SECOND EDIT - I see you're not open to learning new things - that's too bad, because anyone who calls themselves a witch or pagan or what have you should be realizing it is a life long path and life long learning experience - which means being open to ALL opportunities to learn. Advocating something as the ONLY way to do it is becoming closed minded (especially when the items you suggest to use are expensive in this ecomony) and it places you in the realm of the IROTI and IRAB folk - which are all too common around here. (yahoo) It's up to you to change others minds about how you present yourself.

And perhaps do some research - serious research - into all kinds of things related to this field, including the scientific aspects- because like it or not, sometimes a bump or hiss in the house really IS just a pipe , and sometimes sleep paralysis really IS just sleep paralysis- and learning to discern the difference is part of making this a LIFESTYLE and not just another hobby.

BTW? Vast majority of the books in this and related fields are a stack of crap and the LAST method of learning I'd recommend to anyone, especially with the likes of certain authors and how they've lied about their lineage, covening, training, and experience. There are some good and valid books, yes - but when it comes to be one out of 50 on the shelf, you really have to learn to dicern the dross. Find living, breathing teachers first - and realize that everyone you meet is your teacher and your student.

Please stop directing people to the light - seriously. You do them a great disservice, you cause them and others harm, and that leaves it to others to clean up the mess. Spirits will go on when they are done here - some purposefully choose to not be done. It's like me forcing you to eat something you hate and are possibly even allergic to, just because I think it's the right thing to do, regardless of how you feel.

Between me and my mother, the amount of experiences we have had are phenomenal.

In the 80s, my mother's best friend, named Anthony, who died suddenly from AIDS. They were like brother and sister, they were so close, it real shock for her.

I was born in the early 90s, and when I was about 3-4 years old, I went up to my mother one night after talking to a man outside my window. I said to her "There's a man outside my window!" She tells me she was shocked to hear that, as you would being a mother.

"He says he lives in the clouds, His name's Anthony and he told me to say hi."

At the time I had no knowledge of Anthony or how close he was to my mother.

She swears on her life that it happened. I have a vague recolection of the man in the window, but not much else, being 3 or so.

I used to always see a little girl in the lounge room, and I would get mad at my mum, because she couldn't see her.

There have been many other incidences, like, taps being turned on, my dad blamed my mum for leaving them on, but when they went out once, and came back to find 2 taps on, he was convinced.

She says there was one house she lived in where a lot of occurrences happened, but it was a peaceful presence, and she was always calmed, rather than scared. There ws only one that scared her, a chopping board flying through the air.

That convinced her to move out.

There are so many other incidences, even some recently. But i don't have time, really, and there's one personal one i don't want to mention.

My dad died when I was 14. In our house. I am 26 now and I can still remember this. I was laying in bed....a couple days after he passed away.....and I saw a hand come down and rest on my stomach. Like it was my dad. Of course being that I was 14 years old I was scared shitless and I couldn't sleep the rest of the nite. But that was the only time it happened. We ended up moving away from that house 4 months later so I don't know if anything crazy happened there after that.

Ive seen, felt smelled a presence. But ive never heared one. First, i get very scared... and i start to feel hot. And its unusually cold around my bed. And then i feel someting pushing me down into the floor... down onto my chest, breathing became very hard. But i pray... and then the presents goes away. All you need to say is "In the blood of jesus, i rebuke this evil force" and it leaves. Many times this has happend. I seen it before, it looks like a dark shadow of a man.

well, i have felt a presence before, but not of anybody dead, i believe me and a girl i know can communicate with our minds, all i do is produce a sentence in my mind and she gets it, its always slightly different then the original sentence, like playing that game where you tell the starting kid a sentence and he tells the next kid and so on and so forth and the sentence is different at the end, but almost the same... anyways, i can feel her presence whenever we communicate :) it keeps me company :)

I have yet to believe ghosts are real. I want some real proof. Also I'm going to try the mirror in the closet (psychomantium) trick soon so maybe I'll think differently.
