I need to potty train my 3 year old dog...?
He's a chihuahua (but I'm pretty sure he's mixed because he's a little bit bigger). I got him at the animal shelter and he's not house trained. He's been here for about 2 weeks now and he pees where he sleeps constantly. At first, I thought he was scared or nervous and that's why until I called the shelter and they contacted the previous owner. I don't want to take the little guy back. Any ways to help me train him? And how long before I can leave him at home without worrying??

You need a full and proven training program.
"SitStayFetch" is one of the most popular dog training products on the market written by Daniel Stevens, an experienced dog trainer, for every dog owners who know that the experience of training their dog has or will continue to establish a better relationship with their four legs friend.
First when I read SitStayFetch ebook, I was surprised at lots of information has been covered. The 186 page book is broken down into different sections step-by-step, each one dealing with a different aspect of dog ownership. SitStayFetch starts from a basic that dog owner should know. For instance, things to consider before adopting a dog, choosing the right breed, dealing with breeders, the secrets of dog training; and then moves on at common dog problems including biting and nipping, aggression, jealousy, digging holes, disobedience, separation anxiety, fights with other dogs, destructive behavior and even understanding how your dog thinks.
The core of SitStayFetch system is the communication between dog and owner. Daniel Stevens understands that most of common dog problems are from the lack of communication. Your dog simply doesn't understand what you want. SitStayFetch demonstrates how dogs communicate, what are they thinking, how you can communicate with them effectively.
This simple technique helps in improving the relationship between you and your dog. And it also doesn't just focus on one or two aspects of dog ownership. SitStayFetch deals with all common problem behaviors, step-by-step approach tells you exactly what to do and when to do it.
SitStayFetch works because of the tips and advice come directly from the author's real-life experience. You also can sign up for free 6 days mini course which covers selected training methods and behavior fixing methods that are used in SitStayFetch ebook.

I have a yorkie-poo and I had the exact same problem as you.
What I was told to do (and it worked) is to get a crate small enough so that he can just get in, turn around and lay down - or he will pee in it -
Do not put food or water in his crate. Get him a special "crate toy" and give it to him when he goes in the crate. The most important thing is to introduce the crate to him carefully or he will be scared of it. Just leave the door open and put a toy or treats in (make it a good thing). when he goes in it give him a treat. Make sure the crate is in a busy part of the house so he is not scared. Also, Dogs have a very different digestive system than humans so they will need to go potty anywhere from five to fifteen minutes after they eat. So make sure to let him outside after he eats. It is also important to put your dog on a feeding schedule. I feed mine every morning and after diner. If he is a boy make sure he is neutered or he will NOT stop peeing in the house (he is marking - not peeing because he has too)
Good luck!

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aM27T
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

You have to be patient, little dogs are very nervous especially going
from someone's home to the shelter and then to another home. They
are smart but need time to adjust. Every time he wakes up from a nap
immediately take him outside. As soon as he eats takes him out and
any other time he sniffs and walks round and round. He is probably
looking for place to go. After he gets used to the outside area he will
smell where he has been before and will naturally want to go there.
Just give him some time. God bless you both.

I had an *identical* problem with my dog, Spike. The only problem was that he is a Labrador mix, and made a lot bigger messes to clean up. I made a blog online and actually posted the story about my experience with this same situation.
Crate-training is the most important route to go here. Dogs are "den animals", and naturally prefer to be in a space such as the crate. Make sure you feed him in his crate as well. As much as dogs hate to go to the bathroom in small spaces, they hate even more to go to the bathroom where they eat. It will not be an immediate fix, but with effort and a dedication to the crate-training, you should notice an improvement in no time. One thing to be careful of, is to make sure you routinely let him outside as soon as you get home / let him out of his crate. This will get a schedule set up with him, and you should be on your way to successful training in no time!

It's easier to kennel train a dog. keep him in a kennel when you go to work and when you come home immediately take him outside. After he eats wait 20 minutes then take him outside. keep an eye on him so if he starts sniffing around he may need to go so take him outside. it's a lot of work but it will eventually be helpful.

try taking him out side for a walk before he goes to sleep, you could also try to get him to sleep in a place where he can get outside easily, last but not least put him in a tiled room

you just need to train him to come back home because i have a poodle and she needs to go we let her outside and then she does her thing then come back home that is all there is (the cool thing is she doesn't even do it on our yard but know one knows)
