Wild Carrot with Red Root?

We have some wild carrots in our backyard. Except we just found one that was red rooted (the edible part) instead of white rooted. I know that commercial carrots are colored but the wild are supposed to be white.

Have you seen them get red like that? I'm confused about this, lol.

Update:

ahh... so there can be natural red ones??

I've only ever seen white and when I looked online they said that in the US red is not natural but perhaps I read it wrong.

You're wrong. Wild/natural carrots can either be white or red. The common orange ones you buy from the market are a hybrid. They don't occur naturally but red ones do.
