OK, rap itself is not bad. Whether or not a rap song is bad depends on its actual content. Not all rap songs are derogatory or offensive. Unfortunately, most mainstream rap songs are, which is why it has such an awful reputation. Instead of forcing yourself to stop listening to the whole genre, perhaps just start listening to the rap songs that don't have such vile messages.
Here's a list of artists who produce much better music than the stuff you hear on the radio:
Sage Francis
Immortal Technique
Talib Kweli
The Roots
Common
Mos Def
Gza
Lupe Fiasco
Nas
Some of them get some radio play, but definitely not as much as they deserve.
Edit: I don't believe curse words themselves are bad. Yes, generally they hold a negative connotation, but it depends on how they are used. For example, I could say "I'm so f***ing happy" and I would mean nothing bad behind it. I could also say, "You're so smart" with the most sarcastic tone I could muster and that would be much worse than my first statement considering I intended to give a negative message. So don't look at curse words to figure out if something is good or bad. Look at the whole picture. Is the message of the song offensive, good, thought-provoking? That's how you should be deciding what songs are appropriate for you.

It's not bad to listen to non-Christian music unless the message is bad.
I stopped listening to extremely violent rap music after I was sent to the ER due to a near-death experience.
Yup, facing the reality of God can do that to a person

No, Christian music sucks. You shouldn't feel bad. You can listen to whatever you want, I'm an atheist but if you truly feel there is a god then keep on worshiping. You're not hurting anyone.
