Should I go out for Freshman basketball?
I love sports & I've played in a rec league for many years and my season ended Friday (March 13) and we came in 2nd place. I was the best on the team/league. Now, I really want to go out for Freshman and I'm terrified because I'm gay and I fear that I'd be harrassed. What do you guys think I should do? I'm debating on wheather or not to try out. I think I would make it, but it's not worth it if everyone's going to hate me.

Of course. Don't let anyone stop you from doing anything. I am bisexual and i play basketball, soccer, and volleyball and I even used to play football until I had to stop because I started to hate to play it because it became a drag plus I had a neck injury - but the neck isn't the reason why I quit. Depending on if you are out or not might be the problem and if you are then the practices might be a little dangerous for you if they are homophobic. Personally I'm not out, but depending on who is on the team is how you know the reaction would be. But don't let them push you around and stop you from doing what you love and are good at...GO FOR IT DUDE!

You could be a real positive role model for other gay or bi people at your school. It takes courage to face adversity. You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders. Do what you feel is right and use the support of your friends and the people who love you for who you are. Join the gay/straight alliance at your school. If they do not have one then you may be just the person to start one. I hope you decide to pursue what you are passionate about. Be who you are and everything will work out. =]

The mess with everyone else!! If you are good, go for it!! Nothing you ever truelly want is easily got to. I say go for it. You probably aren't the only gay person they'll know and you won't be the last. It's not like you are going to up and change your mind one morning. and they aren't going to forget how to dribble a ball. If you want it then I say buck up and get some. don't let people stand in the way!! Though if you are fantastic then they shouldn't have a problem. As long as you get them to the finals.

Michael Jordan used to be reduce from his High School crew within the tenth grade. He labored more difficult and ended up fitting the first-class basketball participant to ever to play the sport. Never give up, on no account stop. Hope to look you gambling on TV in a couple of years.

Dude I wrestle and I'm gay. Anyway just tell the coach or guidance councilor in you're school if you are being harassed. It is illegal. Good luck with the team duuude.

You definitely should if you really like basketball that much.
I would just say try out and if they do harrass you just let an official know and they should do something about it.
Good Luck

i think that you shouldnt let other people ruin your dreams and goals and if you want to go out for the freshman team dont let them stop you, and no one should hate you for being gay. if your a good player and a good person i think you should be ok.

You know what? Screw them! Do what you want to do and if you're good, they shouldn't give you crap. What I would do, is just think of some snotty comebacks to say when they mess with you. Make them mean and hurtful, but show that you do NOT want to be messed with. If they see that you are tough, then maybe they'll accept you and let it go.

Do it as soon as possible, or let someone else do it for you, I personally don't like telling people I'm gay, I want them to know by some other source.
Oh and bonus point if you're actually good at it. Good Luck x ]

If the other guys on the basketball team start harassing you, tell them to f*ck off because at least you're on the team supporting your school and doing something productive.
