when you are served divorce papers can you choose not to sign?

    Uhm, yes. That's why some divorces take years.

    When served you need to file a response, you can disagree with what is said there. If you do not respond to the served court papers and he doesn't need you to sign to get a divorce...It takes longer but he can still divorce you...so respond to the papers.

    Signing is just proof that your received the papers. If you don't sign and later try to claim that you didn't get the papers, the guy that delivered them (served you) will show-up in court and say he gave them to you.

    Just sign for them...you're getting them either way!

    I think by signing you are only accepting the papers. ( service). Has little to do with the divorce proceedings.

    I am not sure what state you are in divorce laws are different in each state. I would call an attorney and check with them. I would call an attorney anyway, whenever served with any legal document.

    Yes. By signing it means you agree. If you don't agree with what's written there, don't sign.
