I have not had a child experience this, but I am an RN and have taken care of patients in the hospital after a colostomy reversal. There will be some pain, and the doctors will prescribe pain medication that should be given to your son regularly for a little bit. The first bowel movements after a reversal will be frequent and loose. He will be in the hospital for his very first bowel movement, so the doctors and nurses will be there to make sure everything is ok and working properly. Ask the doctor questions. It is important for you to know what to expect. That is what the doctors are there for.
