I live in a city. I have a big stroller for walking around and a smaller umbrella stroller that I use when I have to take public transportation. When my husband and I are together and taking public transportation he usually carries our son in the baby carrier. But sometimes I carry the umbrella stroller folded up as well.

You don't need a car seat for cabs, legally. It's a bit dicey, and we avoid taking them as much as possible. But everyone who lives in a city ends up with their baby on their lap in a cab at one point or another.
