You've done everything I would have. I'd suggest making sure it is absolutely 100% uninstalled (from Add / Remove programs as well as from the printer folder).

Reconnect the printer and see if the computer even sees that you've plugged it in (makes the du-dunk noise and shows up in the hardware device manager).

If it doesn't, you might have a bad USB port on the computer or printer.

Try hooking it up via Parallel cable if your PC and printer have the older style port as well.

Try it on another computer if you have one available. That would narrow down the problem.

For some HP models you need to NOT plug the printer in until the setup program asks you to. Try that as well.

edit: The demo you are printing, is this the test page from Windows (which proves it is communicating) or is it the demo from the printer control panel on the printer itself?

If it's the first, seems like it is working the problem could be the program you are printing from. If the second case, then could very well not be communicating at all with PC.

If Demo page works from the printer, seems like the issue is the communication between the puter, the printer & the pc.

Can we put the puter out of the picture?

just the printer & the pc - then try printing from the pc?

if that does not work either, we need the right drivers for your printer.

Available free of cost @ www.hp.com

    once there, search for downloads.

then type in the complete model in the search field.

say color laserjet 1600n or watevr it is.

then pick your OS, click the driver hyperlink.

then choose the driver with postscript, that is the one you will need.

You will need to re-configure the printer by choosing the downloaded driver then test print.

You can do this step before trying to disconnect the puter from the whole setup too, but I cannot guarantee the results.

for more help, ask another question after trying these steps & telling us what happened.

what is puter by the way?
