Pope tells muslims that religion rejects violence?

Isnt it interesting that the pope is revising history?

Update:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090319/ap_on_re_af/af...

Its interesting that the pope conviently forgets the crusades and the inquisition and the many other wars that were fought in the name of chrsitianity.....

Update 2:

I am not saying that it isnt time to move on and that catholicism (or a pope) has apologized for ther actions, I just find it interesting that this is coming from someone whos religion has a past that had those commiting acts of violence in the name of God.

Well, he said GENUINE religion rejects violence...but, yeah, that's just like saying there was no real Catholic Church since, what, before Constantine?

the unhappy element is the Muslim countries are no longer doing themselves any good. we ought to settle for that riots and burning effigy's are the artwork of radicals stirring up hatred. even however there is an undercurrent of hate being outfitted up in the two factors of the arguments. it style of feels to non Muslims that any communicate or argument is a clarification for outrages behaviour by potential of a few Muslims. I study what the Pope quite pronounced and it would desire to have been pass over judged yet what no longer a clarification for the flaws that observed. How do we come across a answer to issues without communicate. each time a Muslim cleric spouts damnation against Christian countries we don't rebel interior the streets or burn issues. even however i've got self assurance that quickly we ought to stand the incontrovertible fact that until human beings average Muslims lead their countries issues will purely worsen. Islam is peace however the minority is returned destroying the welfare of maximum individuals in a faith.

Cut the guy some slack.Yes horrible things were done in the name of his religion, atrocities that defy the mind even.Today terrible things are done in the name of Islam. Most Muslims recognise and condemn these as haraam but still it happens.Nowhere near the scale or with wholesale approval or as organized as the Catholic church but lets just ignore that for now.

His point is that no religion encourages violence and we must be true to our respect faiths and treat every member of humanity with respect and civility.I dont think any reasonable person can find fault with that.

I don't think anyone can forget what has happened in the past as the consequences of those actions has remained and has effected us all at some point, the only thing that anyone can do is learn from those mistakes.

Violence has never succumbed to anything good and there are many countries that are raising their young to fight for only the purpose of gaining power.

how would you reach to the young men of this country and talk to them about the fighting they do within their daily lives?

  • If I may, religion doesn't kill people; people kill people. Yes, countless times throughout history people have used religion as an excuse for a wars that were really about land grabbing and such, but it doesn't mean that the religion itself supports violence. The Crusaders were using Christianity for their own selfish needs and being hypocrites because of it. Blame the people who mislead and misuse instead of the religion itself.

ok, after the whole condom fiasco, i don't have a great deal of confidence in his intellectual and common sensical prowess. however, it's not too late for the promotion of peace instead of violence where religion is concerned, especially in countries where the catholic church wealds such enourmous influence.

"there's no point in living in the past. they have already apologized for the atrocities made in the name of their religion"

Right so the pope condems stem cell reasearch and condom use.

Sound like he is living in the past to me
