If I use a white stain on red oak will it look pink?
I'm staining a 1 3/8" x 2' x 5' piece of edge glued red oak. I'd like it to be white and have the grain come through but not the color. Any suggestions of what product I should use?

If you are looking for a bleached or limed Oak look then Liming wax is the easiest simply rub it on and buff it for a good finish (available from specialist hard wood suppliers) if this is not available then water down some emulsion paint paint on allow to dry then use fine sandpaper to sand the timber the the paint will be sanded away from the hard grain first so gently does it until you achieve the look you want. good luck

Probably not. It will most likely look white and smeary and not very good. If you want it to look pink, use pink paint. But it sounds like you want it to have more of a white washed look, so try watered down white paint and plan on using several coats to achieve the desired look.

you may need to experiment but i would try a thinned white paint and wipe it on with a rag...there is also a stain called pickeled oak that has a white color to it...

I would test it if I could, if I were you. Stains are so hard to predict sometimes.
