What is the best Hedgehog cage?
I am doing some research before getting a pet hedgehog. I am trying to find just the right cage. I was thinking about getting a rabbit/guinea pig type cage ( I will remove the bottom grate if it comes with one) But I am having trouble finding info on what the bar spacing should be for a hedgehog. Most of the cages I have seen seem to be about 1". This SOUNDS like it should be small enough, but I have dogs and don't want to take the chance of an escape. These are some of the cages I have been looking at:

Oh look, the animal rights brigade are descending on this question. Hedgehogs make excellent and friendly pets, they DONT have fleas and they are very much handleable as they lay their spines flat they dont stick up..."Stop animal abuse" clearly doesnt know as much about animals as they claim to.
Either of those cages are fine, I would go with the large size if you go with the second cage. You'll be amazed at how active your hedgehog will actually be, they LOVE running about! With wire cages the best thing to do is block off the bottom bars...I simply used stiff cardboard around the bottom bars and sellotaped it to the bars on the outside. I'm not sure if a hedgehog can fit through the 1" gap but its best to block the bottom bars off anyway because they can try and climb up them, then fall and hurt themselves.

None. Hedgehogs are wild animals and should never be caged as a domestic pet. This is wrong. Get a gerbil or a hamster. These have been specifically bred for years. Plus, you won't be able to do much with a hedgehog due to it's spines and please remember the amount of fleas this type of animal has.
Sorry, you sound like you are doing your research and would probably really care for the little fellow but I don't believe in this, I hope I don't offend you (this is just MY opinion).
I hope you make the right decision. There is a reason not many people have these as pets - as they don't make the best type of pets like people think they will.
