I agreed to watch someone's dogs for a few days, they never came back!?
I agreed to watch the dogs for a few days, it's now been over a month and they keep making excuses for why they have not come back to pick them up. They promised to send me money but did not. I am an animal lover and absolutely hate this but I CANNOT keep these dogs. The dogs are destructive, not house trained, attack my dogs, and bit a family member. How long before they are considered abandoned and I can legally take them to a shelter? (I will try my hardest to get them into a no kill shelter) Both I and the "owners" live in NJ.
7 AnswersDogs6 years agoClueless about audio equipment/speakers, need help finding x-mas present...?
My husband's #1 passion (after me of course) is music, but all he has to listen to him MP3 player is headphones or one of those truly crappy little ipod docks w/ the horrible little speaker. I want to get some kind of speaker system that he can put his ipod into and get decent sound for the bedroom. I would like separate speakers we can mound on either side of the bed so we can get that "stereo sound" and maybe another speaker for bass? BUT I am totally confused about what I need, and the info I looked up online talks about surround sound or home theaters and 5.1 and 7.1 and all kinds of line in outputs, Blah blah blah, and a lot of it seems to be for designed more with watching movies/ playing video games in mind. Also, I do NOT want this to be a construction job, I will put nails in the wall or hang shelves but I will not cut into the wall, run lines though the ceiling, spackle anything or do any electrical work beyond plugging things in!!! Also money is a HUGE consideration! Please help me! THANK YOU.
2 AnswersHome Theater10 years agoHow do I do in-line citations for Goethe's Faust in MLA format?
I am having trouble understanding how to do the in-line citations for Goethe's Faust for an essay I am writing. I looked up MLA format for classic drama and found I am supposed to list title of the play, the act, scene, and line numbers. The example given was (King Lear 4. 1. 52-53) if I was doing an essay on King Lear by Shakespeare. That much I understand....
BUT Faust doesn't have acts and the scenes have names not numbers... so, do I, for example, cite it as (Faust Night. 265-267) or do I number the scenes myself so that it reads (Faust 2. 265-267) AND if I do assign numbers to the scenes myself does the "prologue" get a scene number? EX. 1=prologue, 2= Night, 3=Before the City Gate... OR Prologue, 1=Night, 2= Before the City Gate, etc. ?
THANKS

3 AnswersHobbies & Crafts1 decade agochronic pancreatitis prognosis?
So, I have chronic pancreatitis. I'm not a drinker (I got it from gallstones) and I haven't touched a drink since I got sick, but I am still having problems. So I have to take enzymes to eat and I am insulin dependant (I wasn't a diabetic before the pancreatitis) The doctors tried to put a stent in my pancreatic duct (5 or 6 times) but it didn't work and the latest MRI shows the duct is more dilated than before, and my psuedocyst is larger, and more "diffuse" I asked My gastroenterologist what that means and he didn't know. So anyway I have seen local docs, a specialist and a surgeon the last time I saw the surgeon he said there was nothing he could do right now, and they wouldn't do surgery unless I was in terrible pain (I have some pain but nothing to get all cut up about) When the specialist saw my last MRI he SUGGESTED I see the Surgeon again, but he's just going to say the same thing he said last time, since my pain is bearable. And my insurance company doesn't want me to see that surgeon. Actually that guy was kinda a jerk anyway, so I don't care about that so much, but the specialist's office was supposed to be finding a surgeon in-network for me, but I haven't heard back. Anyway, obviously I have to research this illness on the web, because these doctors are all crazy and tell me something different every time I see them. I realize the people on YAHOO aren't a bunch of MD's but I was hoping maybe someone else that HAS Pancreatitis or knows about this kind of stuff can steer me in the direction of GOOD info on the web. PLEASE?
2 AnswersOther - Diseases1 decade agoWhy roll yarn into a ball?
I just started learning to knit. I have a stupid question. I keep seeing directions for winding up newly bought skeins of yarn into balls. Maybe I'm going to sound silly, but why bother? What's wrong with the way it is sold? What is the advantage of having it in a ball, and why don't they just sell it in a ball then?

5 AnswersHobbies & Crafts1 decade agoSick Goldfish, Help please?
I got 3 small goldfish about 2 weeks ago. A Calico Ryukin, an Organda, and a Black Moor. It was a new tank, 20 gallons, with an air pump, a over the side Aquaclear filter rated up to 30 gallons, no heater. All the water was treated with Stress Coat declorinator and I added fresh water aquarium salt according to the directions. The tank has not yet cycled, but I have been keeping an eye on the levels. The ammonia was starting to rise, no nitrate or nitites as of the last test.
4 days ago I noticed the fish were rubbing on the gravel and I thought I saw some white spots near the tail of the Organda (smallest of the 3) but it was hard to be sure since his tail is white. 3 days ago I saw white spots on all the fish. I determined it was Ich and started treatment right away. I added a little more salt, raised the temp in the tank, and dose the tank with Jungle Tank Buddies Ick Clear (contains "virginia green" which I come to find out is Malachite Green, and acriflavine)
It seems to be working well against the Ich. White spots are gone now. BUT, the Ryukin is NOT looking good. I had noticed at the same time I noticed the Ich that his gills looked "puffy", like they were standing out from his body some. I thought it was just stress from being sick. But I was observing the fish just now,he was hiding behind the decorations and sitting near the bottom. When He came out, I saw there are small white balls filling his gills.I thought it was some kind of parasite or something, but I can't find a picture online that looks ANYTHING like this. I have NO IDEA what this is!!! HELP?!?!
2 AnswersFish1 decade agowhat KIND of diabetes?
I know this is a question for my endocrinologist, but I'm not due to see him for a little bit, and I am just curious.
I was diagnosed with diabetes over a year ago, but no one ever told me if it was type 1 or 2 or anything. I WAS told at one point BEFORE I developed diabetes that I was prediabetic and in danger of developing Type 2, because I have PCOS. But, that's not how I got diabetes! I had a very bad case of Pancreatitis that did damage to my pancreas. As a result, I have chronic pancreatitis, and I have to take pancreatic enzymes (creon) and insulin (lantis) and my sugar is not all that well controlled. I already have neuropathy and vision changes. I suspect that clinically speaking I have both types 1 &2?!? I read this is possible and sometimes referred to as "double diabetes" but i cannot find too much on the subject.
Again, I am going to ask my doctor, but in the mean time I was hoping someone who is knowledgeable about this subject could explain it to me? Thank you.
15 AnswersDiabetes1 decade agoBAD goldfish problem! HELP!?
I have sick goldfish. He's a big fantail with a tail at least as long as his body A few days ago I noticed he had some "torn" looking fins. They weren't real raggedy, they just looked split into long ribbons. Was mostly on the top fins of his tail. I decided what I was looking at was the beginning of fin rot. I had some melafix in the house and decided to start dosing him. I did it for 3 days and he looked fine.
BUT, just now I went in the bedroom to go to bed...and OMG It's awful! he's covered in white slime or something, all his fins seem to all of a sudden be rotting off and the white slime or sin or what ever is all over one eye, it's so gross, his eye looks like a fried egg or something! he looks miserable too, you know the way goldfish just HANG there. I have no idea what to do!!! is he having a reaction to the melafix? I didn't give him anymore!
HELP!

5 AnswersFish1 decade agotransplant patient and pets?
I was told by my surgeon that I may be a candidate for a pancreas transplant. I understand that transplant patients have to be on lifelong immunosupressant drugs. What I am curious about is where that leaves my pets. I have quite a few...dogs, a cat, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish...I was wondering if I was going to have to get rid of some of them! I am most concerned about the parrot, because no one but me handles him. I could get other family members to help out with the "dirtier" jobs with the other animals, but no one else will play with the bird, so I am afraid I will have to rehome him. Anyone knowledgeable and know the answer? Thanks!

1 AnswerOther - Health1 decade agoHELP what is this fish?
I FOUND a fish that I am almost entirely sure is a non-native species. (I live in NJ) It looks like a cichlid from the body shape. He is about 5 inches long, and the base body color is olive with iridescent blue spots concentrated around the head and also at the edge of his fins. He has a black spot circled in red near his gill. I think he has some red underneath him too. I brought him home because I didn't think he belonged in the lake. (I don't normally try and keep wild animals as pets, but it seemed VERY likely this was a tropical pet fish released into the wild.) He is a pretty aggressive fish too, when I was catching him, he tried to attack me instead of running away. Please help me, I am trying to find out exactly what he is so I can try and take care of him.
2 AnswersFish1 decade agoHELP Sexing Pixie Frogs?
I just got a new pixie frog. I was reading about the difference between sexes, but I wasn’t sure from what I read if the yellow would be present on the males throat from a young age or if it would darken in as he got older. He is about the size of a half dollar. His throat looks pretty much white to me, but can I tell at this age?
3 AnswersReptiles1 decade agoKuli loaches & betta?
I am setting up a new tank for my betta (he's in a BOWL right now, but only because his old tank broke.) It's a ten gallon and its gonna have some plants and a cave and some other decorations.
Would a couple of Kuli loaches be appropriate tank mates for him? He is an aggressive guy (he flares any time you look at him), but I tried and experiment and put 2 little otocats in his bowl today that I had to remove from another tank. he chased them a little at first, but he hasn't hurt them.
So, kuli loaches in a 10 gal w/ a betta? how many? and if not, any other suggestions?

4 AnswersFish1 decade agoWhat is the best Hedgehog cage?
I am doing some research before getting a pet hedgehog. I am trying to find just the right cage. I was thinking about getting a rabbit/guinea pig type cage ( I will remove the bottom grate if it comes with one) But I am having trouble finding info on what the bar spacing should be for a hedgehog. Most of the cages I have seen seem to be about 1". This SOUNDS like it should be small enough, but I have dogs and don't want to take the chance of an escape. These are some of the cages I have been looking at:

2 AnswersOther - Pets1 decade agoHelp! White's Tree Frog not eating?
I have 2 WTF's ("Blue" and "Brownie")that I have had for 6months to 1 year. Both were eating and seemed fine. I had them in 2 separate 10 gallons and upgraded to one 29 gallon (live plants, cocofiber substrate.
For a while now I never see Brownie. I have to literally dig him up to check on him. I don’t think the tank is too cold though cause Blue is eating and walking around and soaking normally. Anyway, I dug up Brownie to check on him and he seemed a little thin to me. Not horribly emaciated, but definitely thinner than Blue. So I decided to separate him. I place him in a 10 gallon with damp paper towels and a Under tank heater. I gave him a water bowl a little hide and 10 crickets. I even turned the lights down since he tends to be shy (but not off, I wanted to watch him) 2 hours + later he has not eaten 1 cricket. He even had a cricket on his head and didn’t eat it.
Anyone with experience with frogs have any idea what might be going one or what I can do to get my froggie eating?
1 AnswerReptiles1 decade agoWhat kind of light bulb (fish tank)?
I have a planted 20 gallon fresh water tank. I planted dracinia (gold ribbon, white ribbon) and a few other plants. I originally had some ferns, but most died. I don't have a CO2 system. I have been using the "daylight" fluorecent bulb that came with the hood, but I was thinking I should switch to a "full specturm" bulb. The hood holds one 18" fluoreent bulb. Should i get a different bulb, and what kind?
3 AnswersFish1 decade agoFEMALE GUPPIES KEEP DYING.?
I posted about this earlier here:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqDZ....
I added more info after I got a few answers, but it's buried too deep for anyone to see it and answer.
Whats really bothering me is whether I should wait a while to see if any more fish die, or add some more females right away to keep the males from pestering to death the females I have left (currently 3 males:3 females)
