I agreed to watch someone's dogs for a few days, they never came back!?

Honestly, from the sound of it, these animals are legally yours. I was unable to find any clear documentation online, but what I would suggest you do is contact the local animal control to consult with the latest laws. You can likely do one of two things. You can either get rid of these animals, or you can simply bring the dogs back to the owner's residence and leave them. But just make sure you are within the law when doing either one.

A possible third option would be to drop the dogs off at the pound a few cities away. Just tell them you found them wandering in the street and you didn't want them to die. Then, just call and thank the owner for finally getting their dogs, and play dumb if and when they freak out that their dogs are gone.

It's obvious that this person doesn't care about their dogs. They probably figure they can just do this forever and that they are justified in doing so. So there is likely little or no reasoning with them.

I don't think there is any legal "time limit" to consider a pet abandoned. You agreed to keep the dogs a few days, it's been over a month and the people refuse to come get them. Give them a call and let them know that they have 24 hours to come and get the dogs, and then take them to the animal shelter. Believe me, since you are caring and feeding them, if they bit anyone the police would ticket YOU because you are caring for them and therefore, responsible. Just take them to the shelter, tell them the owners refuse to come get the dogs, give them the name and address (if known) of the owners. Or if you know where the owners live, I would just take the dogs over there.

Do you have an address for them? Or if not a physical address and email address?

Either send a certified letter or an email with confirmation of being read that states that since they have not bothered to come get their dogs and have stopped contacting you that the dogs will taken to a shelter in three days. Then find a local no-kill shelter to take them to.

Do you have emails and/or text messages that show that you've tried to contact them and they're not replaying? Whatever you have, bring that with you to the shelter. You have EVERY legal right to take them to a shelter. Shame on them for abandoning their pets and using you. Jerks!

You should tell the people this and record the call. So you have proof that you gave them one week to get the dogs with warning you will take them to a shelter. Hope you can find a no kill.

Check local laws, call the owners and tell them that they have 48 hours to make other arrangements or you are dropping their dogs off at the shelter.
