  • Plumbing issue. Odd substance backing up in garage floor drain.?

Have been in this home about 5 years, but it is a 40 year old home. There is a floor drain in the garage and occasionally a liquid forms around it. I assume it is a back up of some type, but the substance looks like water but is oily, clear in color and no odor. Anyone have any idea what is going on. Also, no cars are in the garage, used for lawn mower and storage.

  • Does anyone know of a lab that I can send a pet food sample to check for contaminants.?

I have an older dog, but he has been healthy until recently. Two days after buying the normal brand of his dry dog food, just a different flavor, he became very ill, stopped eating, vomiting and loss of use in hind legs. Blood work at the vet shows kidney failure. There are no recalls on this dog food brand, but I have found a couple of websites where many people have complained about the brand and kidney failure in their pets.

  • Does anyone know about home DNA Tests.?

I have heard that if you are female, only your maternal DNA information is shown. You have to be male for maternal and paternal DNA info to show up. Anyone know if this is true. This is for geneology purposes, like tests from Ancestry.com.

  • Lawn mower won't start?

It ran last fall, but son in law never changed out the gas or spark plug. Tried to start it and it won't start now.

Any suggestions, or do I need to take the thing to a repair shop.

  • How does plant scale infestation get to inside plants.?

I had some indoor plants that I had gotten from a nursery that developed scale and spider mites that I ended up pitching. I have 3 small lemon trees that I started from seed. They have always been inside, were potted in new pots with commercial potting soil and as I was caring for them today, what did I see - scales. They are in the same area as the old plants were, but I washed and bleached the area and several weeks passed before I potted the new plants. How do I get rid of them and keep them gone.

  • Questions about cleaning an electric oven.?

Something spilled in my oven and the oven was then used without the crap being cleaned out. So now I have burned on mess. I have heard you can put a bowl of ammonia in the oven, leave it over night and the fumes loosen the gunk for easier cleaning. Can this be done with an electric oven? Anyone have any other suggestions? I am afraid of damaging the heating element.

  • CRICKETS:) - .?

My living area is in a finished basement and I expected to find crickets, but just killed one I had never seen before. It's body was similar to a normal cricket body, but it's LEGS were really long and I had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't a spider. It was also more of a dark brown rather than black. Can't show a photo because I smashed it with my shoe. Anybody have any idea what kind of cricket it might be.

  • How to go about sealing an indoor rock wall?

I own a home that has stone and mortar walls in the basement. The walls are concrete but in remodeling the previous owners installed the stone and mortar walls over the concrete. The walls are very dusty and in cleaning them I realized that some of the mortar was giving off a fine sand like dust when brushed. Is there anyway to seal this wall so that this does not occur. If not, what needs to be done.

  • Dry rot on car tires?

I inherited a car from an relative who passed away. It is a 2000 Dodge Stratus, but only has 52,000 miles on it. A mechanic did a state inspection and some minor repairs. He stated that I would eventually need to replace a cracked alternator belt and that the tires needed to be replaced as well, that they were manufactured in 2003 and had dry rot. I had never heard of this before (dry rot on tires, I know cracked belts need replacement). Is this a legitimate concern or is he just trying to get some more money.

  • Is there another problem besides a weak battery?

I have a low mileage 2000 Dodge Stratus that belonged to my aunt. It has been starting and driving fine, although I don't drive it often. Last week I got out and started it, the battery seemed weak, but it started and I drove it around, and all was well. The weather has gotten very cold and when I tried to start it yesterday, it wouldn't start, just a clicking sound, and I thought "crap, the battery is dead". Tonight my son in law tried to jump start it and it still did not start, just the clicking noise. Anyone out there know what might be wrong. Could it still just be the battery?

  • Anyone have any idea on why the oil light comes on in a 2000 Dodge Stratus?

I just came into possession of this car recently when my aunt died. She had mentioned that the oil light was coming on occasionally for a few minutes but that she had taken the car to a mechanic and that he told her it was nothing to really worry about.

While bringing it home from her apartment (about 15 miles) I was at a stop light and the oil light came on. I decided to pull over, but as soon as I started driving again, the light went off. I checked the oil when I got home and it was full.

Also, this car only has 52,000 original miles. She bought it in 2002 and it had 15,000 miles on it.

  • What the heck is up with Yahoo Answers new format?

I hate this new format, and probably won't be using it very much. I can't get past the first 20 questions on any category. It says it is loading 21-40, but it never loads. Any body, help!
