Knitting- Can I estimate how many yards of yarn I have if I only know the weight of the yarn?
I am a new knitter. I was given some old yarn from a family members attic, some of it is a pretty brushed yarn called Caron Dazzle Aire in Lime. I have 4 skeins and can't get any more But it doesn't say how many yards it is on the package! It says: 4 ply, worsted type, 4 1/2 stitches per 1", 5 1/2" rows per 1" Suggested needle size 8. NET WT 30z.(85 grams) Can I estimate how many yards of yarn I have with that information? I want to make a baby blanket, but I'm afraid I don't have enough yarn...HELP Plz?

Well, if you really want to get serious about it, you can unwind a skein and measure it (I would use a warping board or warping pegs, but you could probably rig up something with a couple of chairs--just measure the distance between them). Alternatively, you can get this doohickey called a McMorran yarn balance that will help you calculate it. You can order one from The Woolery for a little more than $20. Here's a link-- you'll need to scroll down about a third of the page for it.

4 skeins of Caron Dazzle Aire should be more than enough to knit a baby blanket. I've used it plenty of times. It knits up nice and soft too.
