My brother is in prison, need advice?

Some guy who was sleeping with my brother's girlfriend over 10 years ago and had pulled a shotgun on him has recently gotten locked up in same ward as him. He had conversation with him week ago and supposedly everything in the past was "squashed" and in the past. Now other inmates have told my brother this other guy wants to "take him out" tomorrow. Is there anyone I can call and speak with at the prison to help this situation before it gets out of control? Don't start preaching about how great and good you are either please. Thanks

Update:

Well my brother is in same ward as this other guy and he just has a month to go before he will be eligible to transfer to lower security ward. He can stay in PC until then but the plans were supposedly that he wants to get him at chow time. This guy has been around only a month and has spread rumors and has the other inmates looking at my brother with blank stares.

I would call everyone and anyone you can at that prison. I would even show up there if local. I have a brother that just got out of prison and I'm telling you from my standpoint if I was in your shoes what I would do. I would call your brothers atty if he has one and tell him to call down there, go down there or whatever. These hoodlums have nothing better to do in prison and with idle time that is why they rape, shank and start trouble; I mean most are trouble in the first place. Even though everything squashed; if this guy told one guy and so on; with idle time these guys just looking for trouble. My brother got in one major fight in prison in which he was using self defense he just got dragged into a big chaotic brawl (like you see in the prison movies) but he wasn't the target. My brother always took jobs in the prison and kept busy; just some advice. He's had trouble with drugs, possession etc. in my case I'm just praying he stays clean because if he screws up again its a third strike. We don't ask much about prison but he says its bad. Tell your brother to keep busy and away from this guy. Can he eat in his cell? If I talk to my brother today I'll ask him.

You cannot do anything about it. Your BROTHER must make an issue of this with the sergeant or lieutenant on duty. Inmates lie all of the time about things like this, just because they don't like their cellmate, or what wing they are assigned to, so it's not always going to be something that the officers take seriously.

I'm not saying that your brother isn't telling the truth either. I am just saying that a lot of people don't tell the truth in prison about ANYTHING.

However, when an inmate says that his life is in danger, the staff has a legal responsibility under federal law to take steps to prevent the person from getting hurt. If it is serious enough, your brother can state in writing that his life is in danger. They will then have him go to the classification committee, and they will determine whether or not he needs to be in protective custody.

Just keep in mind that they may or may not decide that he needs to be in protective custody, and he could actually make his situation worse by breaking the inmate's unofficial code of conduct and telling the authorities about his business.

Does this other person live on the same wing as he does, or on another wing on the cell block, where he would more likely run into him at chow time or some other mass turnout?

If he's on the same wing and he claims life endangerment they might just reassign him to another wing to get the two of them separated.

In any case, your brother needs to speak to the sergeant or lieutenant if he feels like he is in danger. There is nothing that you can do about it.

He may well have been in the wrong place at the wrong time but the fact remains that he was there. When the police arrived then they would have arrested everyone they believed was involved. The fact he was there is enough to get him arrested. They have a relatively short time (can't remember exactly what) to charge a person. Once charged then the person can be held "on remand" until trial. Sounds like your brother is on remand awaiting trial. This means that the police and the CPS believe there is enough evidence to get a conviction and have charged him. So they obviously have or think they have something "on him". He would have been given access to a lawyer when charged and he should take advantage of that. The lawyer should try and get him out on bail but if the charges against him are serious then the police would challenge that.

I'm sorry but prison is about watching her back 24/7. The only reason why your might get "takin out" is because he is claiming a gang or someone hired a person to kill another inmate. I doubt you will fine a correct answer. I'm sorry to say this but this really nothing you can do. Once in prison, its all a race war. You could tell the prison and tell them what you've heard, but they not always going to be their when he needs the protection.

For his safety, I suggest you do look up the number to the prison and inform them of this. But what they might do is put him in a different cell/area (or not, cops are lazy). If he told you this over the phone then the prison guards probably already know.

People do get stabbed and killed in prison though so it's serious..

My father is in prison and has been for 25 years, longer than I have been alive. He is sentenced to life.

You can call the prison, but nothing will happen. Guards will pretty much just snub you. Your brother is a lot safer just chilling out and avoiding them. The security will handle it as soon as the first punch is thrown.

Ok first you need to tell get ahold of the prison and tell them there is about to be a gang attemp to exicute ur brother. Then u need to contact him by phone and tell him to make a shank with his tooth brush or with a pen, and pray. I been there and if u don't have people to back u up ur in trouble. Guys in their don't play and they can only gain their rank (power or respect) by hurting someone

I would think to get in touch with the prison warden, and tell him that you heard of gang activity and a murder in planning, they will most likely take you serious and look into it.
