Spybot Search and Destroy?

Okay! I will install Spybot Search and Destroy to go along with my Avast Antivirus. What I want to know is, will Search and Destroy slow down my computer? Thank you.

    Hi,

The application you are referring to uses memory like any other application, however it only physically scans when you manually choose to scan.

Thus, even if it did slow your computer a fraction, it'd only be doing so when you have chosen to run it, and thus presumably you have decided to sit there and scan your PC.

    Regards,

I have Avast on my computer but I chose to install malwarebytes instead of spybot S/D... the only reason was I read most of the blogs on spyware and there were alot of great things about malwarebytes and non of the blogs had any negative comments..I read a few about spybot and its okay according to most users but they normaly install a backup spyware just in case...Its okay to have 2 spyware programs on your computer...but only 1 Anti Virus product...

In my experience, running SpyBot will not slow your computer down. It scans when you tell it too and doesn't run in the background. It might slow it down when you choose to scan, but it's not that bad.

However, the installer will ask you to install TeaTimer. This program DOES run in the background as a preventative measure. I noticed a slow down while using this program, so I uninstalled it. But if you want it for its preventative qualities, go for it.

Since it does use background protection it will slightly slow your computer down but you really shouldn't notice much. And it will help protect your computer much more then avast! alone can, as it searches for spyware while avast! covers mostly virus's. I highly recommend both
