Looking for songs that feature a steel guitar prominently.?

I'm looking for songs I can listen to on Rhapsody that have a good sequence of a steel guitar, preferably in the gospel or country genre. Also, for players, how long did it take for you to learn to play well, and does it help to know how to play a regular guitar first.

Examples I've found include Marty Robbins 'Jenny', and The Kendalls 'Here Today & Gone Tomorrow'.

Steel Guitar Rag is probably one of the most famous. kd lang's last album has some nice work on it. Look for artists like the late Sneaky Pete Kleinow or Buddy Emmons for some of the best. Steel doesn't have to be limited to country styles, either. Check out some Robert Randolph and his Family Band or some of Buddy's jazz stuff. I love the steel guitar because it is one of the few instruments that let you bend notes inside the chord, which makes it very unique. Good luck

look for "fire on the mountain" by the Marshall Tucker band, and "Panama Red" by New Riders of the Purple Sage. Both songs have excellent steel guitar
