my 6 month old won't finish his formula?

He eats only about half of his formula and starts biting the nipple really hard. He doesn't want to finish the bottle even after a full 9 hours sleep overnight. He ate some pureed food afterwards but still didn't seem too interested. He also makes some moaning noises during bottle feeding. Has anyone had this issue? I'm taking him to the doctor on Monday morning. I'm waiting that long because he is still eating some food and not refusing it totally. This morning he also had a little diahrea but has been totally happy all morning and doesn't have a high temp.

Update:

no fever either

    Has this recently started?

If so he may be teething. Many babies lose their full appetite while teething and I know with my son he would bite on the bottle nipple and now does so on his sippy cup.

As long as he is taking SOMETHING then he should be fine. Check his gums for any redness or swelling. Diarrhea can also accompany teething.

My son won't eat at breakfast either...after 11 hours of sleep I too wondered. Is he eating other full bottles during the day? My son went from eating 8 ounces at a feeding to 6. They eat when they are hungry and will only eat as much as they feel like. It's hard to regulate sometimes.

I agree about going to see your doctor just in case!

  • As harsh as this may sound, he will eat when he is hungry and there is nothing to worry about. I agree with another lady, he may be teething. My son is 7 months and still has shown no sign of teething. Sometimes babies just don't feel like eating and this will carry on well into their childhood. Does he cry for the bottle when you take it away? His tummy may be hurting.

    good luck
