Why am I the same size now that I was 40 pounds less ago?

Hello,

Recently I've gained about 40 pounds. I am the same size that I was when I weighed 40 pounds less. My body hasn't gotten bigger, and I have not incresed in dress size or anything of the like. My measurements are about the same. No, I am not and cannot be pregnant-- I have not had sex in about 6 months and I've taken a pregnancy test at the hospital since then (because I had ankle surgery). This weight gain has been over about 8 months or so-- but the last ten pounds the weight gain happened in one week.

Yes, I want to see the doctor about this, as soon as I can pay off my past due bill I'mm be going.

Oh yes-- I've been eating healthier, not overdoing any snacking, or anything like that. And don't attack me and tell me I'm overweight and need to exercise, because I know I'm overweight and I have recently began excercising again, as of a week ago. I know this isn't muscle weight gain, because as I said I've only begun reexercising a week ago. The ten pound weight gain in one week happened before this.

Update:

I have taken the medications I'm on for several years now, with the exception of Lyrica, which I took after this problem began.

Update 2:

I KNOW about muscle weighimg more than fat-- to the people who answered its muscle weight-- please reread my information. It isn't muscle. I'm smart enough to know that I have not gained any muscle. I haven't been working out, and I stay at home due to mental disability. I know it isn't muscle, so please don't tell me I've gained 40 pounds of muscle. Common sense would tell ANYONE that you'd have noticed that!

Muscle weighs more than fat, it's heavier than fat, it's smaller than fat, leaner than fat, harder than fat, firmer than fat and healthier than fat.
