Who here would eat balut?

Balut

http://www.stuartxchange.org/Balut.html

Who has actually tried balut? Do you like it? Do you not? What's it like?

If you haven't, how much money would it take for you to eat it?

I'm adventurous with foods, and would even try fried bugs on a stick. But to try balut? I'm not adventurous enough. I mean, balut made it to Fear Factor, so it's got to be gross, yes? No? Are there any Asians here who are also grossed out by balut? My friend at work is Chinese American, and she won't touch the stuff, even though her husband loves it.

So, what's your take on balut?

Yes I have eaten it in cambodia lol! They call it baby egg over there and they eat it with salt, pepper and lime sauce.

Its ok as long as you don't look at it too hard, its not actually crunchy as you'd expect beak/bones to be. and no less ethical than eating duck or egg in my mind! i'm british.

Well...my future mother-in-law is straight Filipino and when I asked her about Balut she wrinkled her nose and said "No, absolutely not!"

But my friend DiDi is also Filipino and said she didn't want to try it but did this past summer and even became a friend of it on facebook.

So I guess it just depends on the person and how open their mind is. If you pop the thing into your mouth thinking "gross gross gross" then it'll be gross because you never let it have a chance.

Personally? I am ballsy, but I don't know if I am that ballsy. I think I would rather eat a fried wood grub, but I would eat Balut before stinky tofu or fermented pork.

My husband lived in Singapore when he was a small child his father was in the army. he used to watch his house keeper eating them so he would eat them and still dose. first he cracks open the egg and drinks the liqueur and then eats the egg that is left and then had the embryo like a meaty treat. I cant stand the site of them but he seams to enjoy them. But he has had Tibetan tea as well(warm yak milk starting to ferment) I guess it all depends on where you were raised and what you would be willing to try. I like stewed eal and octopus salads dose that make me weird. what is the worst that could happen you don't like it and you never eat it again. at least you would have tried it.

I'm kinda crazy food wise...I'll try just about anything. Balut just sounds like having your chicken and egg at the same time. Not so bad.
