why are there so many plane crashes lately?
Just this year there have been loads reported lately. Are pilots getting worse? Are we relying too much on computers to fly them? Is it the weather? What do you think is the cause.

I would say its chance and if you think about all the planes that fly every day there is a hell of a lot of them in the sky at any one time,
but if you take in to account the cars on the road at anyone time there are more car crashes than plane crashes.
but its due to the fact that car crashes (although preventable) do happen every day that no one bothers, where as plane crashes are rare that everyone knows about them due to press coverage.

I think it's just random. The weather hasn't been worse, pilots are trained better as the years go by and we aren't relying on computers more than we were for example last year or the year before. So I think it's just chance.

If you look at the history of aircraft accidents, this is nothing. We've been through a very quiet period in aircraft accidents, and recent accidents have kept us in the norm. Probably what you're seeing isn't more aircraft accidents, rather it's becoming much easier for you to know about them.
The jetBlue emergency landing in LAX a few years ago was a non-event, but news cameras filmed it and it garnered national coverage. The Continental 737 that ran off the runway in Denver only received coverage because passengers were tweeting from the crash itself.
If you look at the attached document below, you'll see there isn't more crashes than before, you're just more aware of them.

there's usually a few per year, but as casualties have been low they down get much press. It's only when there's a heavy loss of life that they stick in your memory.
It's doubly bad for me - i'm flying to tokyo on thursday!!!! and there was a crash there this morning!!!

I think it is just to chance, last year - there were a few; but not many. We are just unfortunate that a lot have occured frequently.
But no one moans about car crashes...

well it does happen, but not often. i been on a plane before and it didn't crash. i don't think it's the weather coz i was on plane to auckland it was windy the plane was going up and down. why does a plane break down, not enought fuel in plane. thats my guess, i might be right or wrong.

You would not say that if you had a clue as to how many flights daily take off and land safely. Hundreds and hundreds of thousands

A recent report has shown that many male pilots tend to leave their duty to AP (Autopilot) and have sexual relation with stewardeses. This has led to many arrests and bans on pilots.

Probably badly devised training courses, also the unpredictable weather conditions these days!
