My wiener dog had that happen when he was jumping around in the back yard on a pile of wood and fell. He damaged one of the discs on his back. Back problems are common with the Dachshund breed. I took him to the vet and they gave him a shot of cortisone. However, it only helped his front legs. His back legs were still paralyzed. I took care of him for awhile. Then my parents insisted that we put him to sleep. He was getting old too. It was very sad.
I've run into other people who said they waited for their dogs to heal. Several months later their dog walked again. The lady told me she bought one of those wheelchairs for her dog and after several months he recuperated. I wish I would have known about this before. I miss my dog terribly.
Bring your dog to the vet. Ask the vet if your dog could be assisted with a dog wheelcheer until he recovers. Maybe he could give him a shot of coritsone to see if its the swelling that is keeping your dog from walking.

There could be 100 different things going on here. Your vet is going to have to do an exam, or maybe an x-ray or blood work up. You can try to take an old bath towel, put it under the dogs belly, hold an end in each hand and try lifting the dog that way so it can go potty. there is no easy answer here, you need to go to the vet. Arthritis starts out slow, it doesn't progress this fast.

stroke, ms, arthritis, palsy.... it could be any number of a hundred things. Purebred dogs are more likely to develop these sorts of conditions.... best answer is go to your vet. If there's nothing he/she can do, it would be more humane to put down the dog than to let it waste away and just sit there forever, never being able to do all the things that fulfill a dog's life

Vet, vet, vet!!!!!! One of my dogs had that - she had a slipped disk in her spine - every move your dog makes might be dangerous so don't waste any more time here and get her immediately to a clinic. Good luck!

Take him to the vet immediately. He may have a spinal cord or brain (possible stroke) injury, especially if this was something sudden. If it was just arthritis, he would probably try to at least walk on them even if he was limping.

bring him to the vet. It could be arthritus, but for anything big like this with your dog, don't come online to ask. go staright to the vet. Yahoo users are not vets or doctors.

sounds like bad arthritis, you should take him to the vet, they will likely put him to sleep, if you love him you ant let himsuffer like that.
