Do you think my mother's recent marriage will affect my financial aid?

I'm 21 years old, in nursing classes and working hard to pay rent (don't live with my mother). My mother has been divorced since 2003, but just got married this past December. In the past, I've gotten full financial aid coverage because my mother's income is very low (she makes less than I do) and she has five children living at home (not counting my sister and I who moved out). I don't know how much money this guy collects off of disability (he really is eligible, he's a cesspot of medical issues, every other week he's hospitalized), but I'm worried that whatever comes in might throw off my eligibility for financial aid, and I can't afford tuition myself by a long shot. Any idea?

People who earn disability boarder on the poverty line, I doubt his income will effect you much at all. I wouldn't worry about it.

Just be sure you get the correct number of people in the household on your fafsa correct as well as the number of people in college when you fill out your next fafsa.

    Good luck.

I too worry about financial aid each year. Next year will be my forth year in college and I am the sole contributor to my education; although I had everything based off of my parents for the past 3 years. This will most likely affect your aid If he collects enough disability. If I were you I would look into getting private nursing scholarships; if you don't already. The way it sounds though you will still be eligible for some federal aid considering your mom has 5 children.

Given the circumstances, I doubt very much that your mom's marriage will affect your student aid. In fact, it could well get you more aid. This guy has no income, no assets, etc. so there's nothing there to push you out of one bracket into another.

    I think you'll be okay.

it might offset itself because it specifically ask if they are a parent or step parent I think it asks about time of marriage as well.
