What do these word by Samuel Adams mean to you?

Samuel Adams, quotes about Civil Rights:The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men.

the freedoms guaranteed by the us constitution are the most precious things that are country has and they will need to be defended at all times. if the freedoms of the individual are compromised in the us it gives up the very foundation on which the country was built. this country was built to allow people to have the freedom to try new ways of life, build new fortunes , new industries and the freedom to fail at the attempt and get up and go again. this country and it's government were not designed to have the government take the lead and control the countries future direction and its economy. the current attitude of wanting more government solutions to both large and small problems is a direct assault on the founding fathers and the limits they set on the government through the constitution. public health care government bailouts public welfare programs all go directly against the ideals that the country was founded on.

Freedom isn't free. Good men fought and died to give us the freedom we know enjoy. If we forget the sacrifices of our forbearers, made on our behalf, we are destined to discover the true cost of our complacency. This is a government of the people, by the people and for the people, a representative democracy. If, through our complacency we give up our right to a say in government, if we let those we have elected run this nation without consequence, without question, we will loose that which good men fought and died to defend. If this truly is a government of the people, then we must act to defend that liberty, not sit back and watch as corrupt politicians levy laws and taxes designed to promote their own special interests over those of the nation.

The benifits we enjoy as a nation are not ours by some chance of fortunate birth but were passed on to us be our predicessors who tioled and suffered such that those who came after might have a better life. It is the dream of every parent in that thier child might do more or have greater success than they themselves have had. I write that and realize that even that idea is a product of the culture that dominates in this country and is not inherent to all people of the earth. Different cultures have differing views on life, death, family and children. While those views are no more good nor evil than our own they have born different fruit. It is the unique set of cultural traits which have joined together to form this country which have formed this nation into what it is today. It is our responsibility to preserve and enrich this grand thing we have been given. This responsibility is not minor or passive. We may not be absolved of our duty because we were lead astray. We are individually responsible for holding that which we value when there are many who wish to take it from us by any means.

I love our founding fathers..they were without a doubt GENIUS'S!!!...they lived in a world where they KNEW tyranny and recognized it for what it is...I have often recited quotes of our founding fathers and most people really could care less what they had to say...to them they were just rich slave owning white men...its sad how our rich history is not even taught in our schools today...our children are being cheating out of knowing and understanding just what has been involved and the lives scarified so they can live in relative peace and prosperity in this great nation...

Here are a couple more great quotes that I find relevent for today:

"Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not."

    ~ Thomas Jefferson

"The government of the United States is a definite government, confined to specified objects. It is not like the state governments, whose powers are more general. Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government." -- James Madison (speech in the House of Representatives, 10 January 1794)

Democracy is 2 wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch, liberty is a well armed lamb. - Ben Franklin

    It means:

Freedom was given to us through blood and sacrifice of our ancestors. It is something worth fighting for. We must be forever vigilant because keeping freedom is a constant struggle and there are those who wish to take it away from us even within our own country but our freedom will not be taken away by violence but through laws, legislation and manipulation, but by the time we realize our freedom is gone it will be too late to act.

Freedom is worth fighting for and we should never allow them to taken away by Congress. False and designing men is a good description of Capital Hill.

  • Finally, someone who understands what this Country is all about. And he should, he helped form it.

Too bad our Politicians today just don't get it. "false and designing men," any of this a-ringin' a bell?

Hopefully the majority of Americans get it, but I have my doubts.

We may have to kiss it all goodbye. It's very sad.

We should defend our freedoms at all costs instead of just sitting here typing about them.

To me, it means don't give up your freedom in exchange for promises by the government to "take care" of you.
