Cause of severe left ear pain?

I've had left ear pain and some left throat pain for the past week, which has progressively got worse. Last night I had to go to the ER because it was so bad, I couldn't sleep. Doc said there is no infection and that my eardrum looks normal. He took an xray and a strep swab, and both were normal. He prescribed me some Vicodin for the pain, and sent me on my way. Today, it's still not any better, even with the use of the pain meds, sweet oil and ear drops. I should add that I had my tonsils removed last April, so that's not the problem. My ear hasn't suffered any trauma, I don't stick Q-tips in my ear and I'm not a swimmer. I haven't had an ear ache since I was little, and I'm 22 years old! What could this be, and are there any remedies that I could try?? Thanks!!

*It could be fluid behind the ear drum. You need to find an Ear doctor. It is obvious the ER doctors did not know what they were doing. They need to put you on some antibiotics. Get a tube on triple antibiotic ointment and place some in the ear. My daughters are hearing impaired since birth so over the last 40 years I have learned tricks from the world's best ear docs.

Get a second opinion. If you can give your ENT surgeon a call or at least call your primary doc. Your problem might be an enflamed lymph node in your neck just below your ear. This has happened to me before. Also for the pain try holding a warm moist wash cloth to your ear. this can help with the pain but its usually temporary.

Do you know if you have TMJ (Temporomandibular joint) my daughter and I both have it and we suffer from periodic ear and throat pain... perhaps a medical doctor isn't where you need to go but rather a dentist...
