They are wasting our money because the people have not taken a stand against this three ring circus of a government. PT Barnum couldn't have put on a better show than the clowns in Washington.
But the drug problem in Mexico is spilling over the border into US cities. The Mexicans put their army down there to control things, the US citizens in border towns don't necessarily want the army down there, so the US does the only thing it know how to do...throws money at the problem and then hope to God it goes away.

The 700 million needs to go for fighting drug trafficking but it should be used by US agencies. Mexico's president is even less trust worthy than the US president

Believe it or not the "fallout" from drug trafficking cost the US way more than this in the long run...it's actually a good investment due to the fact if the situation was left alone, would cost the US billions of dollars down the road! I know it seems hard to understand, but by taking care of other countries, benefits our country in many ways.

Because they can. You have to realize first that the vast majority of congressmen/women have never held a job. They come from rich families. They do not give a rat's *** about you or your family. The only thing they care about is getting reelected. By "saving" us from drugs they are showing how much they care about us. Of course if they did away with the drug laws there would not be any drug cartels because there would not be enough profit in it for them. I do not do drugs. Also they do not believe that the average American knows what to do with money.

I agree. it is ridiculous. As for the HDTV, that yet another answer commented on, that fluctuate right into a funds maker. the federal government offered the previous bandwidth for over a hundred billion greenbacks to the telephone agencies, and google.
