Who is to blame for the sheer lack of knowledge displayed in this poll?

Granted it's non-scientific and it is geared towards people with whom (somehow) Lou Dobb's facile views resonate... but I can't call the below anything other than a consequence of being under-informed:

Do you agree with the Obama Administration that America is to blame for Mexico's drug violence?*

Yes 20% 499

No 80% 1936

Total Votes: 2435

This is not a scientific poll

Leaving aside the phrase "partly responsible" being replaced with the more pundit-friendly "to blame for". The role of demand in driving the supply of illicit narcotics is well established in the academies, think tanks, and the halls of power. Why is this so difficult for the street to grasp?

I would say that it is irresponsible of Lou Dobbs to use the terminology he did. Clinton said that the United States shared in the responsibility and did not "blame" anyone. The blame falls to the manufacturers and users of illegal drugs.

It is also the irresponsible actions of the people who participated in the poll instead of demanding Lou Dobbs practice good journalistic ethics and report the facts instead of distorting them in a way that will bolster his ratings thus generating more advertising revenue.

This may be an example of the saying: A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Too many people are brought up and schooled under the doctrine: My country right or wrong.

They simply don't want to believe that America can be anything but that "beacon on the hill". Assumedly, they also don't realize that beside the problem of drug use creating the demand, the government's "War on Drugs" is making the importation and distribution much too lucrative for the black market.

I believe the ultimate solution is legalization. That would put the violent factions out of business.

American made and supplied guns smuggled for America's insatiable appetite for drugs makes America partially responsible.

Barry and his ilk want to blame us for everything.
