What is the purpose of term limits for the president?
If we truly live in a democracy, then why would we impose a limit on how long a president can hold office? If the people vote for who they want to lead the country, why should it matter how long?

to prevent dictatorship, once someone is in power for too long they do as they please, being a democratic nation we must avoid that at all cost and show a peaceful exchange of power.
there was not always term limits for presidents, george washington served 2 terms and gave up his power.
others modeled after him until the law was created.

The presidential term limit is in the 22nd amendment, which was passed in 1947, after Franklin Roosevelt had been elected to 4 terms (he died during his 4th term).
