So atheists, what exactly do you consider disrespectful in regards to someones beliefs?
"Which makes better toilet paper, the Koran or Bible?"
From an obvious atheist poster. A poster called it out as being disrespectful she got 5 thumbs up and 5 thumbs down. So if that comment isn't disrespectful than what is?
By the way speak only for yourself.
Why would a Jew say that about the Bible? Why would a Hindu either? Only an atheist would have cause to make such a comment?
"No belief automatically deserves respect, and baseless beliefs such as theism never do"
That has got to be the biggest peice of BULL I have seen. So however way you find to seperate the person from the belief is on you.
Nice way to rationalize (the atheist ploy) insulting people.
All I see is excuses. Disrespect is disrespect.

You seem to be pretty angry about all this. I think that's why people of any faith (or none) push your buttons. Is the toilet paper question disrespectful? Of course. Rude and ignorant, too. But to assume that atheists in general are disrespectful ("an obvious atheist") is pretty ignorant as well. Many atheist lash out against theists because of the fairly common judging and lecturing that comes with many religions. Christians are taught to spread the word of the lord, especially in places where non-believers dwell. Atheists get tired of hearing it. But I don't remember ever having an atheist come to my door with pamphlets urging me to stop believing in God. To have the sanctity of your home violated is a serious offense to some people.
But here on this site, there is blatant disrespect for everything you can imagine. If you get so easily offended, maybe this isn't the best place for you.

Disrespectful ? That varies and I really think most Christians have no right to b*tch as they refuse to respect the beliefs of others as do most Islamics .
There are many Pagans in this forum including Satanists who might make such a comment because of constant harassment by Christians and Islamic as well . Your own intolerance and disrespect towards others will be reflected back at all of your faith .
Besides wiping yourself with either would at best give a sever rash .

how do you know they weren't Jewish? or Hindu? or any other religion that doesn't see either of those two books are holy?
and yes, that was a disrespectful question.
Edit: Neither the bible, nor the Koran, are considered holy texts by Jews, nor by Hindu's.
there are idiots and rude people of all beliefs, so why wouldn't one of them, or someone of any other religious background for that matter, say something like that?
Jewish books include the Torahs, the Talmud, and the Pentateuch. the Old testament used in christian bibles is so far mutalated from the original stories, that jewish people do not claim the Old Testament as an accurate writing for their own use.

Atheist is an outline that means none-theist or no perception in any God. It does not describe some thing else approximately the man or woman, for illustration probably the most so much retarded persons I've met are atheists, had been as probably the most smartest persons I've met (Doctors, scientists and so on) had been Christian or theist. Edit: and tons of atheists are closed minded retards as good, had been as many theists may also be very open minded.

I would certainly call that comment needlessly inflammatory and probably childish.
But, I do have a problem with the idea of always having to show respect to a person's belief, regardless of the belief. I do not respect the belief that the Holocaust did not happen. I do not respect the belief that blacks are inferior to whites. Neither do I respect religions that peddle a false morality, incite hatred, and encourage a small-minded view of life. I respect religious people, but not necessarily their religion.

i think you need to work on your sense of humor. obviously, nobody's going to use a book for toilet paper while they can still get charmin.
it's not disrespect at all, it's satire. if you can't laugh at yourself, then you're going to feel persecuted no matter what anybody says about your religion, so lighten up. i've asked similar questions about my own religion, and my fellow pagans have seen the humor, with a few notable and predictable exceptions.
oh, and the answer is, the koran, because i don't read arabic.

Nothing. But if a person gets bigot and snobbish about his religion, how only his religion is true and the rest is condemned, then I'll get annoyed. I'm not saying majority are like this, only very few people I've come across were like this. So, yeah. Besides that, I'm down whatever people believes in.

People are entitled to basic respect, NOT beliefs. Supernatural stories do not deserve my reverence and respect because somebody else believes them to be literally true. The toilet paper comment of course was designed to insult, and it wouldn't be my style to say something like that, but I also think that more and more we need to raise awareness that criticizing religion should not be taboo. People don't deserve automatic respect because they have "faith". Since when is credulity admirable? We have as much right to argue about and criticize "faith" as we do for politics or anything else.

Putting down others beliefs while imposing your own. Nobody likes being told what to do.
A Jewish friend of mine made the mistake of telling a fundamentalist that she was Jewish. He immediately said "oh, I know that's wrong..." and gave her the names of a bunch of Bible camps. She called Jesus the Easter bunny.
It's just annoying really.

No belief is inherently worthy of respect. All must be backed by evidence and reason.
Ethical behaviours are backed by reason and evidence. Scientific endeavours are backed by reason and evidence.
Those books are just that: books. They are not gods, they are not living beings. They are objects. I am no more offended by the notion of someone wiping their bottom with a holy book than I am with them using a copy of Catch 22 (a personal favourite) for the same purpose.
It's just an object.
