Do you approve of the Nick Choice Awards nominees?

My 7 yr. old daughter wanted to vote, so we went online last week. I was a little surprised to see the Pussycat Dolls on there for best group (I think) and Katy Perry's song "I Kissed A Girl". I'm not pruddish- consider myself fairly moderate. I'm not really strict, but not really liberal either just somewhere in between. I was just a little shocked at these choices for nominees for a kids award show. I don't have a problem with my 15 yr. old and these things, but I don't really think she's in the demographic for Nick or the kids choice awards. Was anyone else surprised by this?

Update:

Baby boy: I am not telling you my age, but I said I have a 15 yr. old. And I did not give birth as a teenager.

The Katy Perry song struck me because of the lyrics: " I kissed a girl and I liked it. The taste of her cherry chapstick." Really- that's not for the young kids. Like I said, I don't have a problem w/ my teenager listening to that, but she's not watching the awards show either.

I dont want my 7 yr old singing and thinking about "I kissed a girl" or kissing anyone ..sexuality isnt for 7 yr olds to contemplate

I also disagree with some of the nominees, and I heard that The Pussycat Dolls will even be preforming on the show! Is that ridiculous or what!? I also agree with that the a few of the nominees are fine for teenagers, but this is an award show aimed at 6-11 year olds!

I think it should be called, "Teens Choice Awards" because it really is geared more toward older teenager, not young kids. I don't know who would actually look up to Pussycat Dolls besides other high-school-drop-out-strippers. It's sad that Nick is telling kids that's what they should be listening to. And I think the Katy Perry song is just stupid... she's not a lesbian, she just sang a song that someone else wrote, even though it makes no sense, so she could get fame and money. I think that will confuse young children. I guess you'll just have to monitor what your kids watch/listen to now.

My daughter wanted to vote as well (she's 6) and i'd never heard of a lot of the nominees and she definately didn't know who they were. I had no problem with the Katy Perry song, but the Pussycat Dolls? Come on. I think they only ones she actually voted on were best cartoon and favorite nick actor and actress. The other categorites we just kind of put whatever in.

I think that it is great that you went online with your daughter...many parents don't even bother supervising their children online!

I agree with you about the nominees - Chris Brown is charged with a violent domestic assault, the Pussycat Dolls are sexually suggestive, Katy Perry is definitely singing for an adult audience...

I talk about sex with my 11 year old son, because I don't want him getting ideas from the morally questionable land of Hollywood - and I don't let him watch TV unsupervised!

And I am definitely NOT a prude! I don't let him watch violent shows either :)

To be honest in our home we don't watch Nickelodeon at all because of garbage like this that they promote to children in their programming and other things. It's completely inappropriate.
