Tenants rights with pets?!?
I am renting a house with my Girlfriend and the land lady knows about our dog & cat, but our cat has just had kittens. We were upfront and told the landlady about this, however she insisted that no kittens in the house, so asked me to get rid of the mother snd her babies! we put up a fight and she said they could stay until we find them homes. We desperatly want to keep 1 kitten as she looks just like her mum, would we be in BIG trouble if we got caught? baring in mind the landlady has already broken the contract with a few things!
Thanks guys, I can't get rid of my cat, and kitten I love them too much!! To be honest I think it's crazy, as the landlord accepted our huge german shepherd, but is getting funny about a cat?!!!
How would she know if we keep the kitten? they have to give you 24 hrs notice if they pop round anyway right? Plus if she wanted to evict us they would have to pay a lot of money as they have broken the contract abiout 4 times so I could really get them!!
Looks like i'll have to get rid of the kittens boooo!! I hate renting, evil landlord :-(
p.s I tried looking up those tenants rights about pets, but it's all for the usa and i'm in boring England!
umm...cats are toilet trained in 1 min, they have litter trays. And we're more concerned about our furniture as its all ours!
our tenancy states we have one cat and one dog. I can prove that she has broken the contract as she said on the aggreement there was a phone line, but i had to pay a lot of money to have one installed!! also, she said she professionally cleaned the carpets, they were disgusting, I had to do it myself, I asked to have hot water, she said I'm 'pissing' her off. So yes, she is an evil landlady, are there any decent ones out there??!

If the kitten is not allowed then it is not allowed. PERIOD! If you keep one against her rules then she can evict you.
The landlord is not trying to be evil and that comment is quite rude. They are just trying to protect their property.
Landlords are more picky about kittens and puppies because it takes time to house train them and they pee all over the place until they learn. Pet urine causes major damage to floors.

Yes you could find yourself homeless very quickly if the landlady says no you have no legal right to go against her decision. Renting is not tit for tat, you can't use the fact that she has broken the contract as a way of getting your own way because you want to break the rules. If she broke the contract before on other things, you as a tenant can report her, move out or deal with it. If you break the contract, you can be evicted, be sued and receive bad refrences for future renting. Is one kitten worth being evicted, sued or finding it extremely difficult to find another property? If no then do as your asked and get rid of the kittens. If yes then await your eviction notice! Simple, follow the rules or leave.
EDIT: Yes they have to give 24hrs notice to pop around, that much is true unless it's an emergancy or they require access to the property for maintence. She can get around the 24hrs notice quite easily. Also do you have proof she has broken the contract 4 times, written or photographic proof of any of your accusations? Without sturdy proof she'll owe you nothing and you will still be homeless and likely lose your deposit for the fee to clean up after 2 cats and a big dog thats a hefty clean. Be careful what you get yourself in to. We all love our pets, but we all also have to have somewhere to live. If your evicted and can't find somewhere else that will allow ANY pets at all, what you going to do then. You'd have to give them all up, the dog included. Very few private landlords accept pets, especially cats and dogs. Be careful!
Also another point for you, tenants have no rights when it comes to pets. Its solely up to the landlord/lady to decide whether they allow pets. Tenants have no rights to fight against a tenancy that states no pets. You can't take the women to court because she's being mean not allowing you to keep kittens in HER house. If the tenancy stated no pets, it means no pets. Pets are a luxury there not an entitlement. The council also have rules and regs on pets in council properties. So you have no rights about your pets, what she says goes.

Hya, arrr i feel really sorry for you. I myself had 2 cats, then one day, my cat went under my daughters bed and popped out 3 adorable kittens. They were so cute, had 7 claws which is unusual, anyway were very cute! We were also renting and in the process of moving to another rented house with the same landlord. He didn't know about the kittens, but he knew we had 2 cats. The week before we moved, he saw our cats had scratched the wallpaper, he told us if we took the cats to the new house, well we wouldn't be moving in full stop!!
We were all packed up ready to go and couldn't find anywhere else... My mum took 1 of the cats to live with her, but the cat + kittens had to go to the RSPCA, i cried all the way home and have NEVER forgiven myself. We should of just took them with us, he never comes round even to fix things! Hes crap! we are moving again now as he is such a bad landlord!!
Anyway, on a brighter note, we have just got our cat back from my mum and have a labrador puppy!! he'll never know! lol
GOOD LUCK!

If you want to continue living there, do what the landlady says. It might seem unfair, but you could be in violation of the lease, in which case you are subject to eviction. And, like someone else mentioned, is all that really worth keeping a cat?
BTW - if you did put up a fight, I would expect the landlady to not renew your lease when it comes due.

If the lease specifies "one dog & one cat," you can be evicted for more. Apparently you are in violation of the lease or terms of renting the house, and you are the one who can get evicted for it. If there are any violations by the landlord, they do not absolve you from your violations, so the landlord's actions are irrelevant if the landlord decides to evict. Start finding homes for the kittens to go to as soon as they can leave their mother.

Your California lease controls your rights. you do not have any implied rights to have a puppy, different than in case you may prepare you prefer a service animal/dogs (i.e. seeing eye dogs, dogs for listening to impaired or a dogs that could grant and fulfills a actual desire) this might require displaying a docs letter and evidence that the animal is knowledgeable to grant such centers. I even have considered monkeys knowledgeable to help human beings Upon lease renewal, you will possibly be able to threaten to circulate away in case you would be persevered to be denied a puppy. have you ever tried to negotiate? except you seek for to have a larger half Doberman, Bull Terrier, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Pit Bull, Akita (canines no longer extensive-unfold as being in many circumstances sociable) you're waiting to convince your landlord that upon cost of a sensible puppy deposit you ought to be allowed to maintain (a million) dogs. good success

my husband is in the military and to be honest with you it always seems like the person renting the place has all the control. BECAUSE...think about it, what if she evicts you? is it worth it to keep a cat? or if you choose to battle her in court, is it worth all the court fees. see what i mean?
